MALKY MACKAY SET TO BE NEW BLUEBIRDS BOSS

Thu Jun 16, 2011 7:54 am

Cardiff will pay the £300,000 to 'buy' new boss Malky Mackay from Watford - and hope to tie up the move today.

The Welsh outfit are to follow up an approach for the highly-rated Scot with a further push and a cheque to match the compensation figure in his contract.

Watford turned down Cardiff's request to speak to Mackay, but the deal has to go ahead if the figure is met - and the Hornets board will have to accept that.

Mackay is keen to make the switch to the Bluebirds, despite being seemingly snubbed in favour of Alan Shearer in a frantic round of talks at the Championship club over the past few days.

The ambitious Mackay will be desperate to close the move as Huddersfield's Lee Clark is another option for Cardiff, who want a quick result after the Shearer distraction.

Cardiff have joined Blackburn as jilted clubs who Shearer romanced and then left wondering what they had done wrong.
