Mortgage Advice !!!!

Long story short but I am a first time buyer looking at buying a house with my girlfriend. We curretly have a deposit around the 10% mark & popped into speak to a Mortgage Advisor. Now as I am new to this has anyone used a Mortgage Advisor which they can recommend? The advisor I spoke to was good as gold but I don't want to get the wool pulled over my eyes, plus I am looking at the fees they charge? What is a acceptable fee to pay??
