So... We are £60 Million in debt..

Thu May 26, 2011 8:34 pm

In terms of risk, this is small change for a £ billion corporation such as Berjaya/ VT and the millions owed ( or mortgaged/ invested) In terms of international markets......

They can earn a major return on their investment and bringing in other partners (Sam/ Lanston)

Chelsea are several hundred million in debt , Man United are nearly a £billion in debt as are many other premiership clubs- why are we panicking..? We have strong season ticket sales despite a relatively poor season , a strong fan base , which will grow in future years if we achieve success....

The Malaysians will be aware of this and are no doubt working at ways to increase the return on their investment which will no doubt be protected in terms of shares or loans...

Can't compare our debt with Man U or Chelsea - both have vastly better income streams, hence their debts are serviceable ones...

Our debts would be serviceable long term... If we reached the Premiership and taking into account the far east/Malaysian fan base,,,,,

Your bank would lend you 500k for a new house as long as you promise to pay them back from the lottery money you expect to win next year?

My house is worth much more than £500k,,, I have a stadium, guaranteed seat sales, sponsorship, player values, corporate deals, future earnings etc etc....

A stadium whose value is basically zero - who else will play there? Blues alone?
Seat sales, sponsorship - yet wage bill still higher than income.
Player values - ledley, Bothroyd shown player values irrelevant - hell, I'd argue players should never be listed as assets for that reason.

Things are better than they were, but we're still in a lot of trouble.

who values the stadium at £0? - a commercial value based on current property values would not be £0

Blues = additional income based on core value?

We have a squad of players each would have have been assessed as an asset, ( at least as an insurance or mortgagable value) and sone have already been listed as such interns of future transfer values

And what is the commercial value based on current property values for a stadium with very limited purpose? Who precisely would play there should we go under? Blues can't afford to take the stadium over... so who else would purchase the stadium?

Player asset values are far, far too volatile to realistically look at - the Jacks don't list their players as such for good reason, hell, look at Bodde. Yes, we list them as such, a fundamentally flawed premsise given we've not been realising those assets values when dispersing with them.

On that subject our player values are presented as their transfer fee when bought amortised over the length of thier contract. So likely to be showing less than £2m in the accounts as of today.

Agree on most of the rest. Although the stadium could be valued in terms of income streams at about £10-£15m being what the Blues might pay for it to turn the deal around from tenants to landlords (nowhere near the £50m showing in the accounts).

It's value may not be based on a sporting value,,, it's purpose could be changed or re-valued/ re-assessed for future use , such as retail value (adjacent to an existing retail park , asda etc) Should the owners wish to change it's use in future...

Players value like any other asset are volatile, (stocks shares etc are a gamble whether we like it or not...) and are trades that owners and corporate companies will be inclined to make ...

Well, as I understand it, we own the stadium, not the land upon which the stadium stands. Hence it's value is bound to it's function as a sporting venue. Should the owners wish to change it's use in future, aside from the costs of persuing such a change, the value would be offset by demolition / rebuilding costs.

Again, some clubs list player values, others don't - there are pros and cons both sides. For me, player values can make the balance sheet look rosier than they actually are, hence I'd tend to ignore them personally.
