Skysports.com understands Watford have rejected a bid from Brighton for highly-rated winger Will Buckley.
Seagulls boss Gus Poyet has targeted a move for Buckley as he prepares his side for life in the Championship next season.
Buckley has impressed at Watford since arriving at the club from Rochdale in January 2010.
The 22-year-old has established himself as a key member of Malky Mackay's squad and he was named as the club's Young Player of the Year at their end of season awards.
Brighton are believed to have tabled an offer in the region of £500,000 for Buckley which was rejected by the Hornets board.
Championship new-boys Brighton are expected to come back with an improved bid as they look to tempt Watford into selling.
Buckley's agent, Clive Hart, was unavailable for comment when contacted about the interest from Brighton.

Makes no odds really when we dont even know who our manager will be next season but surely this is the time to start doing deals and not at the last minute like we usually do and end up with the left-overs.
