'Keepie uppies' around the marathon course

Can elite marathon runner listen to music when running in Marathons? Just wondering if anybody know if elite marathon runners can listen to ipods and other music devices when running in big city marathons like London. It is just that you never see anybody do it. I personally can't run without my Ipod.
