taking flags to sheffield united

Wed Apr 13, 2011 1:05 pm

yesterday on the coach, a steward from sheffield united came onto our bus and made some announcements on the microphone. one was obvious "if you go onto the pitch you will be ejected" but the other one which amused us all was that if you wanted to take a flag into the ground, you needed some sort of fire certificate. unbelievable, never heard of that one before.  :ayatollah:

This may provide an answer :

Flags are not generally confiscated, however the obstruction of gangways, access routes, exits and entrances, health and safety signage and stairways is strictly forbidden.
In the event of an emergency all access and exit points must remain clear.
Football clubs have the right to confiscate flags if they are very large or may compromise public safety, obscure someone’s view, a camera position or if a flag carries offensive, discriminatory or inflammatory messaging.
Flags more than 250cm in size at their widest or longest section will not normally be allowed without prior consent and flagpoles greater than 1m in length will not allowed.
Any articles that could potentially be used as a weapon and/or compromise public safety are strictly prohibited.
Permission must sometimes be sought in advance from a stadium and event owner to arrange use of the very large supporter flags that are designed to be passed over people's heads. In such cases the flag must be flame retardant and the organiser bringing the flag into the stadium will need to provide the appropriate H&S certification.

It would appear that the Bramell lane ground policy is not to let in flags without a fire retardant certificate.See link.

Taking things far too far IMO!

If they take that stance, then surely everybody who enters the ground, should have to wear fire retardant clothing, footwear and goggles!

I know a couple of City fans mind, who do have a bit of a flatulence problem and ought to wear flame retardant Boxers! :) :ayatollah:

An old mate mine said that he knew a bloke who was related to some person that worked in the DVLC in Swansea that was related to someone else in Swansea :o whose cousin's mothers brothers sisters uncle worked in the Fire Brigade and could provide said certificate for 75 pence.

Failing that google Fire Certificate, download, paintshop, hey prestani, allah be praised one fire cert for your flag.

Plan B, cut two small eliptical holes in yer flag about three inches apart (1.26 if you post on CCMB) then wear it as your Burka. Simples.

or even until people stop putting fraudulant/excessive insurance claims in for exagirates apparent injuries or loses, then insurance brokers will bring down premiums and insurance agents can allow more freedom on their policies

Do you work for an insurance company by any chance? :) :ayatollah:

NO i dont i deal with insurance companies over claims that people make refering to injuries and time off work and it pisses me right off these muppets dont realise if the company they work for or shop with or pay their council taxes too, cant get insurance, because of high excesses they shut down or go out of buisness, but what does that matter to the scrounger who wants to make £1500 for this years holiday ? nothing coz he'll be the one to go on the dole and not bother looking for a job and sponge even more off the state and the tax payer.
