Shoulder Operations

Tue Apr 12, 2011 12:43 pm

Any of you lot ever needed surgery on your shoulder? Just been told by a specialist I need an op on it as it has dislocated a fair few times now. Not looking forward to not being able to do feck all for a few months but hopefully its best for the long run.

i have had stabilisation op on shoulder, surgeon shortened & tightened all ligaments in my shoulder & carried out a few other repairs,my shoulder came out once & went back in,suffered for many months after that, couldnt lift my arm above my head, felt like shoulder was going to come out all the time, the surgeon i had was awesome,he was the first surgeon in uk to do this op through keyhole surgery,i have got quite neat scars, some of my mates have got huge scars after the same op,my shoulder much better now,it takes a few months to get back to normal, long road of recovery.

Have had major operation on shoulder to repair rotator cuff, having dislocated, broke 2 bones, biceps displaced and snapped all main tendons. in other words my arm was hanging on by the flesh. Still cant use my arm properly it is partially disabled, but the surgeon who fixed it thought i would never use my arm again. But after 2 years of physio have amazed them.

I had this op because I dislocated my shoulder and it kept popping out. Well tidy scars because of keyhole technique. I had Dr Robertson at Llandough.

Long rehab programme with a regular physio, still get pains in joint every now and again but feel much more confident than before the op, havent played rugby since though. The only pain in the arse is the 6 weeks in a sling and only being able to move your shoulder to certain positions.

Had rotator cuff surgery a year and a half ago. Was supposed to be keyhole but they had to shave the bone and tidy up more damage to the torn tendons than they originally thought. Not too bad now tbh, aches a bit from time to time but the strength is slowly coming back. Been playing golf again for about a year - although strangely, I could still play when the tendon was torn but couldn't lift a pencil with my arm out straight!

You'll be in a sling 24/7 for some time after the op btw. Also, don't want to get too graphic - but post-op, wait until you have to wipe your arse with the wrong hand

I'm in Germany, getting it done in Hannover Hospital next tuesday. Pissed off that it's taken 4 months for them to finally decide that I should have an Op. Was sposed to be doing a few ultra marathons, deep sea diving, sky diving this summer and skiing last Jan, but no chance of that happening now. Really not looking forward to not being able to do any sort of phys for a while!! By the way, it's my weaker arm so no such hardship wiping my arse :D
