" CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE WHO "

Mon Apr 11, 2011 6:33 am

WHO SAW LIFE HOW IT REALLY SHOULD STILL BE instead of Know it Alls and Nerds Trying to Run Our Lifes.

Congratulation to all my friends who are 40+....!!!!

WE WAS BRUNG UP PROPER...

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY WHO WERE BORN IN THE 1940s, 50s and 60s... Here is WHY.......

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank Sherry
while they carried us and lived in houses made of asbestos.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese, bread and dripping, raw egg products,
loads of bacon and processed meat, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested
for diabetes or cervical cancer.

Then after that trauma, our baby cots were coated with bright coloured
lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets, and when
we rode our bikes we had no helmets or shoes, not to mention the risks we
took hitchhiking.

As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.

Take-away food was limited to fish and chips; no pizza shops, McDonalds ,
KFC, Subway or Nandos.

Even though all the shops closed at 6.00pm and didn't open on a Sunday,
somehow we didn't starve to death!

We shared one soft drink with four friends, all from one bottle and NO ONE
actually died from this.

We could collect old drink bottles and cash them in at the corner store and
buy Toffees, Gobstoppers and Bubble Gum with the change.

We ate cupcakes, white bread and real buttermilk from the cow, and drank
soft drinks with sugar in it, but we weren't overweight because......
WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back
when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day (no mobiles) and we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of old prams and then ride
down the hill, only to find out we'd forgot the brakes.

We built tree houses and dens and played in river beds with matchbox cars.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo Wii , X-boxes, no video games at all,
no 999 channels on SKY , no video/dvd films, or colour TV, no mobile phones,
no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms. We had Friends and
we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no
lawsuits from these accidents.

Only girls had pierced ears!

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us
forever.

You could only buy Easter Eggs and Hot Cross Buns at Easter time.

We were given air guns and catapults for our 10th birthdays,

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang
the bell, or just yelled for them!

Mum didn't have to go to work to help dad make ends meet because we didn't
need to keep up with the Jones's!

Not everyone made the rugby/football/cricket/netball team. Those who didn't
had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!! Getting into the
team was based on
MERIT

Our teachers used to hit us with canes and gym shoes and throw the
blackboard rubber at us if they thought we weren't concentrating .

We can string sentences together and spell and have proper conversations
because of a good, solid, three R's education.

Our parents would tell us to ask a stranger to help us cross the road.
Imagine that now.

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They
actually sided with the law!

Our parents didn't invent stupid names for their kids like 'Kiora' and
'Blade' and 'Ridge' and 'Vanilla'.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO
DEAL WITH IT ALL !

And if YOU are one of them!

CONGRATULATIONS! :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as
kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated our lives for our own
good.

And while you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave
their parents were.

the days when we walked to school .... didnt want food when we came home from school ... stayed out when it rained .... got smacked by our parents for just being there ... never cheeked our elders ... wore new shoes that hurt ... wore those shoes until they feel off our feet ... bathed once a week on a sunday ... never brushed our hair ... hated girls ... LOVED FOOTBALL! :ayatollah:

so so true ..... not the good old days but the great days. Raft building, bonfire building, camping over the park all summer, playing football for hours, FA, British Bulldogs, Touch, Germans and British and the freedom to wander.

Re: " CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE WHO "

Mon Apr 11, 2011 7:05 am

You forgot we used to stand at football, games were never called off because the pitch was frozen or waterlogged, Football boots were black and no-one used to wear gloves or under armour gear!

it cracks me up when I hear youngsters moaning about how tough they have got it they seem to be of the opinion that everything should be done for them!

We had to make do with what we got as long as I had a football or a cricket bat I was happy :old:

Maybe you should of left out the part about being able to string a sentence together, you obviously can't! One of the most basic rules of grammar is that you should not use capital letters in the middle of a sentence!
Bit of older generation hypocrisy here. I remember this e-mail being sent around few years ago, it was boring then and it's boring now!

I can remember sitting there on a Saturday morning watching the TESTCARD waiting for the programmes to start!!!

We had three channels (and BBC2 was only on half the day)

I know have a thousand channels (mainly shite) on Skyplus, which I can programme from my mobile phone. (Well i could if I knew how to do it!! lol)

we didn't have a mountain bike, a road bike and a BMX either.

I just had one bike (Chopper with adjustable handlebars) and it did all the above

EDIT - and it made a noise like a motorbike if I jammed a lolipop stick into the spokes! :D

My favourite was playing on railway tracks and waiting for trains to squash pennies. Catching mice newts and slow worm for pets. Saturday morning cinema for six pence. But as you mention staying out all day as a nine year old until it was dark.
and when I was ten I would go off to Newport, Bristol or Swindon by train having just bought a platform ticket. Best of all though was walking from the Heath to the steam engine sheds in the docks and climbing on the trains without a word from those who worked there.
