Tom Heaton injury shock for Cardiff City
by Terry Phillips, South Wales Echo
Apr 7 2011

STEPHEN Bywater is on standby to start for Cardiff City at Doncaster Rovers on Saturday after first choice Tim Heaton suffered a recurrence of his groin injury.

Former Manchester United keeper Heaton felt his groin while taking a goal-kick during the 4-1 win against Derby County and has had scans to check out the problem.

Jason Brown, the Welsh keeper who was on loan from Blackburn Rovers until Sunday, has now returned to his club.

If Heaton, who is having intensive treatment on his groin, fails to make it for the Doncaster game then Bywater will step back in.

Derby County have a 24-hour recall clause on Bywater, but have now signed Brad Jones on loan from Liverpool.

Heaton is rated doubtful for Cardiff’s match at Doncaster, having played well in the 4-1 win against Derby.

He completed 90 minutes, but was left fed up and frustrated that his groin was still causing a problem.

Heaton had been out for five weeks with his groin injury before returning to face Derby County.

Cardiff City failed to win four games with Bywater in goal, while they have suffered only one defeat in the last 11 games when Heaton played.

No matter who plays in goal against Rovers, the Bluebirds are firmly focused on a top two finish and automatic promotion. That would see their season end on Saturday, May 7, at Burnley, but if a play-offs finish is needed they could be chasing the promotion prize until the end of May.

The play-off semi-final first legs will be played less than a week after the last League game, on Thursday, May 12, or Friday, May 13, with the second legs on Monday, May 16, or Tuesday, May 17.

Promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs will then be decided in the Championship final at Wembley Stadium on Monday, May 30.

A bit worrying, especially with the stats on Bywater in goal. Would give Brown a start.

The report says that Brown has gone back, whilst the official site said yesterday, that Brown was available for selection! :? :ayatollah:

What about Jordan Santiago, seen him train and play for the reserves, he shits all over Bywater IMO.

yeah saw him stopping shots in the pre-match warm up against Derby I thought he looked pretty handy.

Not like us to use our youth players though is it!!!
