ON A SERIOUS NOTE! " Final League Table...... "

Tue Mar 29, 2011 1:58 pm

after using the BBC sports predictor - I got this final league table and trying not to be biassed towards Cardiff, and sincerely putting in what i PREDICTED the results to be!

Have a go yourselves (link at bottom) and we can compare tables? but here's mine anyway....

Image

Interestingly READING have hounded themselves up into the play offs! Sheff Utd, Preston and Scunny go down, and Leeds manage to drop out of the play off places!

what you lot think ?

Much as I'd like that to be the final table I think your statement: "....trying not to be biased towards Cardiff ..." is probably wishful thinking. I've done the Predictor a few times and have also tried not to be biased but I've overestimated our results every time. :-(
I think it's probably a natural "hopeful optimism" that we have (God knows why - it's the City we're talking about :-) )rather than a realsitic assessment of the matches.
I'll give it another bash later and see what I get but on first glance at yours I see you have forecast the City to improve their goal difference by +10 over the remaining 8 games - I can't see that happening; over the last 8 games we have scored 11 and conceded 11.
You forecast QPR to improve their goal difference by +5, Norwich by +3, Swansea +3, Burnley 0 and Leeds +1 - comparing these to the City's +10 does make me think you have been over optimistic - be interesting to see how the final table compares. Here's hoping you're right!

The goal difference is not really accurate, as its hard to determine who scores what. I just went for the teams to get the 3pts in all honesty.

in my case it didnt matter. And in answer to the previous posters points - I dont think Norwich can score 85pts.....with the games they have.

I started this and it just got too depressing!

For us, it all depends on what team turns up. One game, we are world beaters, the next total garbage.

See what you mean about your GD predictions - I had a go and just predicted win(2-1), lose(1-2) or draw(1-1) - it was easier to type in that way. :P

Ended up with (just showing final place & points):

1. QPR 94
2. Norwich 85
3. Swansea 82
4. Reading 79
5. City 77
6. N. For 75
7. Leeds 73
8. Burn 72
9. Leics 70
10. Hull 68
.
.
.
22 Sheff Utd 40
23 PNE 34
24 Sc'thorpe 34

So play & beat Reading in play-off semis then beat Swans in final . :D

I refuse to do it because i did it the season we missed out on the Play Offs to Preston :( and that season i had us finishing 2nd to Birmingham how could anyone predict the way the last 6 games turned out :o :o :o

Re: ON A SERIOUS NOTE! Final League Table......

Tue Mar 29, 2011 11:48 pm

I'm sorry, but I have City finishing 9th. I have us to beat Derby and Boro at home, but those are the only 2 games I honestly think we will win. I think our defense will cost us at Doncaster and we will draw 2-2. I have QPR to beat us, I just think they will be too sharp for us across the midfield and won't concede. I think Portsmouth will hold us to a draw, our 2 away games against Preston and Sheffield United will be scraps, and we won't like it, I can easily see us getting turned over by both of them and Burnley will beat us on the last game. I am not being pessimistic, i'm just being honest. I am not liking our run it at all. Reading have an easy looking run in and look the threat, I had them finishing 4th!

9th! Come on.....

Despite a final day defeat at Turf Moor, and a victory for Norwich over Coventry, we finish level on points and go up automatically by one single goal.

Possibly more interestingly, I've got Burnley to finish 6th on 75 points and then four teams on 72 points, just below them!

Gonna be tight no matter what. It's why I love this league!

Re: ON A SERIOUS NOTE! Final League Table......

So far I make it:

5 predictions for 2nd place.
2 for 3rd
2 for fourth
1 for fifth (mine)
1 for 6th
1 for 9th

So:
5 for auto promotion
6 for play-offs
&
1 for better luck(?) next season.

There is a theory (not proven as far as I know) known as "The Wisdom of Crowds" - it was "used" by Derren Brown when he got a group of people to predict the Lottery numbers and it applies to the "Ask the Audience" life-line on Who Wants to be a Millionaire. If you ask a group of people to answer or predict something, no one individual may get it exactly right but the group average will usually be there or thereabouts. So given the predictions so far, the "wisdom" of the group predicts the play-offs at least!! Stressful time coming up methinks. ;)

Now it's:

6 predictions for 2nd place.
2 for 3rd
3 for fourth
1 for fifth (mine)
1 for 6th
1 for 9th

So:
6 for auto promotion
7 for play-offs
&
1 for better luck(?) next season.

I did the predictor, just before the Barnsley game, we finished 2nd on 81 points , just above Norwich on goal difference.
So we are still on track. But I had us to beat Barnsley and lose to Millwall.
There are still a lot of twists and turns yet I think, but I'm confident we can take 18 points from 24. Just over 2 points a game and thats always been DJ's target :D . So we will see. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Re: ON A SERIOUS NOTE! Final League Table......

I just can see us getting past Norwich or Swansea playoff's for us but still promotion :ayatollah:

Re: ON A SERIOUS NOTE! Final League Table......

1ST -QPR 96 points
2ND - Norwich 84 points
3RD -Swansea 83 points
4TH Cardiff- 80 points
5TH Reading - 79 points
6TH Leeds 79 points
7TH Nottingham forest 74 points

oh no :|

Re: ON A SERIOUS NOTE! Final League Table......

Our defence is gonna be too suspect and fragile for us to gain enough points to finish in the auto's, 4th or 5th sounds more realistic, then knocked out in the semi's in the play offs.
