A sad state of affairs

Sat Mar 26, 2011 11:35 pm

I must be honest I think its sad and embarrasing that when Wales play as a country and fans we cannot unite together. Today 150 Swansea turned up and ended being sent back on a train to Swansea due to hostility from fellow Welsh fans. FFS this is 2011 not the 1980's England fans have moved on and no longer bash each other. I follow Wales away and its much better with fans uniting on away games I think its time for sensible fans to speak out and ensure we can try and move forward. A lot of fan may say feck Swansea and think I'm talking rubbish , personally I thought it was sad seeing Welsh fans from different clubs being segregated at a home game. :?

i agree cefyn but what's the answer ?

i remember so called swansea fans coming down in the early 90's on international days and sent back home without seeing the game too so it's not a new thing that's happened today

just a prolonged exercise for the next generation

Well thats right Mozzer its nothing new I remember against Holland in the 90's they were escorted out of Cardiff. I dont have the answers unfortunately its deep rooted in football culture within South Wales tribalism at its worst. Unless the top boys meet and say fecks sake this is daft shake hands and say c u boys at the next game I cant see it changing. Polish fans fight amongst themselves as do other nations. But thousands of North Wales boys were down today as always and no problems but the rivalries within South Wales sadly i think will ensure this goes on for decades.

Ok but I think your missing the point a little. The swans fans in question were not down in Cardiff to quietly support Wales were they? They came with the intention of causing trouble, so what were the police supposed to do?

I'm sure there were plenty of swansea fans who came down, watched the game, supported the team and went home. they just didn't make a song and dance about it because they weren't interested in making a statement that they were swansea fans. Just as you didn't go there with the intention of making out you were Cardiff fans.

i was in town from 9.30am. atmosphere was great if a little tense. up until about 12.30 the pow was split almost 50/50 welsh and english not really any hint of trouble.
england fans werre dotting about everywhere, but not making a song and dance just having a beer.
everyone knew the jacks were locked in a gaybar. then at 2pm ish a few spotty kids in burberry got marched in giving it the big un.
it looked like there first day at big school. all a bit embarassing!!

cefyn used to follow wales all over europe till i as stitched up with ticket allocations so i ,m not an avid fan as i used to be in terms of following our national side

met loads of wales fans over the years especially from the north and the newport areas but the swans is a different issue . no doubt countless swans fans follow our team then go home after the game but what do we do to the lot lot that turned up today ?

it's a tough decision . do we ban them ?

i notice football casual is revelling in todays saga . perhaps casual wasn't around in the 70's /80's when football firms were high on the agenda

But when 150 swansea fans have to get escorted back to the train station while shouting jack army and swansea songs, dont u think that cardiff fans will be agitated by this??

Spot on.

I know a few Jacks that went today, some of these actually go to most Wales games home and away. They said the 150 that were escorted to the gay bar ARE NOT regular followers of Wales. If the game was played in Newport they would have not bothered turning up.

The police did the right thing is escorting them back to the train station. Personally I cant see what these 150 gained from it excpet making themsleves look stupid by being put in a gay bar. If they were wanting a fight then why come to a city centre where their are CCTV cameras etc. Surely common sense tells you to take the fight away from the attention. I just get the impression they knew they would be escorted by the police so basically hid behind the line.

Love that. They were big enough to make a noise while in the escort, if they wanted to have some trouble they would have made a move sooner rather than wait til they are wrapped up by th OB

I seem to remember that there was a truce a couple of years ago when there were a few jacks at an away game. They were left alone as long as they didn't start to play up on the Cardiff Swansea thing. However it didn't last long as a couple of away games later they came in bigger numbers and decided to make a thing of the Cardiff Swansea thing and from what I'm told got a slap for their troubles.

Ive been away with Wales to loads of places not so much now as I've got commitments and can't afford it sadly! But the one thing I will say is that I've made a lot of very good friends from Wrexham and north Wales through the Wales games and that's because none of us make a big thing about the clubs we support if anything moan about our own teams. But the jacks are a different thing they do make an issue of it and that's where the problem lies. Plus the gay bastards can't be trusted!!!

But don't forget newport in this I remember being in Italy a couple of years ago and they attacked a pub with Cardiff in it. They sent a couple in first to test the water numbers etc. Then attacked the pub and because of this a couple of Cardiff ended up in an Italian jail which is not the nicest places to be.
