Dave Jones to call on all his experience for Cardiff push
by Terry Phillips, South Wales Echo
Mar 19 2011

DAVE Jones insists his experience of promotion battles during 16 years as a manager will help Cardiff City in their push for Premier League football.

The Bluebirds stand fourth in the Championship and need to win at Millwall today in the hope of hunting down second-placed Norwich.

“I’ve done it (promotion) a few times and these are nervous times,” said Jones.

“You can see that. Every team near the top seemed to be on a good run and now they are all dropping points.

“A lot of our players have never won anything. A lot have gone close to winning things.

“Of course nerves are going to be frayed, but the adrenalin rush that brings keeps you going.

“Everybody seems to be faltering, apart from Queens Park Rangers. Our job is to keep going and chase down the teams above us.

“We are still in a good position and we’ll keep chasing it.

“This club has never earned promotion to the Premier League and right now Cardiff City are in the best position they have ever, ever been in.”

Jones led Stockport County to promotion during his early days as a manager and steered Wolves to the Premier League via the play-offs in 2003.

But he has been heavily criticised by some fans with Cardiff collecting only one point from the last nine on offer.

The Bluebirds will be without Michael Chopra for the rest of this season and Jones must come up with a plan to ensure Cardiff’s firepower is not diminished.

Craig Bellamy or Jay Emmanuel-Thomas could be moved into attack to partner Jay Bothroyd or Jones could opt for a five-man midfield.

That would mean Bothroyd leading the charge with Bellamy and Emmanuel-Thomas urged to get forward in support from wide areas.

Two weeks ago we were chasing down QPR now we are chasing down the teams above us which as I said yesterday is nothing but spin.

In reality we should be the chased rather than the chaser but his ego will never admit to that. Even without Chopra I still think we have enough to get into the top two but does DJ and more importantly his players believe.

Making a public statement about his players never having won anything is hardly motivational is it, why doesn't the guy publically support his players afterall we are still the only team this season to replace QPR at the top of the League.

It may have been short lived but we did it and thats the true potential of this squad. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

You can't believe anything this clown says, for example:
Jones recent statement "from now on everyone at this club will breathe, eat and sleep football"
Result was one point in nine.

We need Jay to hit form and start putting a shift in. How would the beast do up front on his own ? Or Jay and Beast up front together. Or will Jones put Bellers up front with Jay and play Burke and Thomas on the Wings ? :?

I disagree with the post "didnt help us last year did it". Well yes it did. We were going into games like Chelsea in the cup with 2 18 year old midfielders, Wildig and Blake cos McPhail Rae and Ledley were out, we were down to the barebones and Dave Jones still spurred us on and got us to the playoff final, so a superb season, especially with all the sh!t that was going on off the pitch. Well Done Jonesy, keep up the good work, we're even closer this year!! Very well played against Millwall yesterday, just some sloppy defending

BUT IF DAVE JONES HAD BEEN ON THE PITCH AND HEADED IT HIMSELF WE WOULD HAVE WON AND BEEN FINE, SACK HIM!! (only joking, thats just the bollocks the most fans are probably thinking) Keep the man in charge and get off his back!

REMEMBER THE PLAN B DEBATE????????????????......................well he had to deal with Bothroyd and Hudson going off injured in first half, but we still went ahead, good use of plan B. Then we went 2-1 behind but maybe another plan b or plan c got us back infront.
