Dave Jones fires up Bluebirds for final push

CARDIFF CITY boss Dave Jones has rallied his troops, telling them: “You have to think, eat and live football for the next 10 games.”

The Bluebirds welcome Barnsley tomorrow for the first in an epic run of fixtures which will decide if they finally fulfil their Premiership dream.

Cardiff go into the clash still smarting from back-to-back defeats at the hands of Ipswich and Crystal Palace.

They were both games Cardiff dominated for long periods, but, unusually, were unable to find the net.


But Jones says the mood in the camp is buoyant and moved to focus his players’ minds fully on the big games to come.

“The morale in the camp is still good, although everybody is very disappointed with the last two results,” said Jones.

“Performance-wise against Ipswich, how could you say that anyone had not done what they should have done?

“But football has a tendency to slap you, big time.

“When you think you played well and you come away with no result at all, it’s how you respond to the next one.

“You need every ingredient now, who gets the rub of the green, who plays, who wins the points, who stays free of injury, who has that little bit of luck. You have to add everything in to it.

“After the Millwall game next Saturday we have the international break and then you go into eight games which are constant.

“We have got some really long trips, so it’s about staying fit and staying strong. No distractions from anybody whatsoever.

“You have to think, eat and live football for the next 10 games..”

Barnsley arrive in the Welsh capital 15th in the table and rapidly in danger of seeing nothing left to fight for this campaign.

In midweek, they earned a 2-1 home win over strugglers Scunthorpe with both goals coming from striker Marlon Harewood, who arrived on loan at Oakwell from Blackpool last month.

With virtually a full raft of Championship games being played today, Cardiff will know where they stand by the time they kick off at 3pm tomorrow in the tightest Premiership push in years.

But Jones insisted however results go today his players must not be distracted from the job against the Tykes.

“If there is pressure on players at this stage of the season, worrying about what others are doing is not going to help,” added Jones.

“We need to worry about our own performances. I would be disappointed with anybody in this football club who allows pressure to mount because of results elsewhere.”

Think its better for him to take them with him and keep a lid on it.

Even better if they link them all up to one bookies and make them take a limit there.

Its the drinking and misbehaving that embarrasses the most.

Its Ok for players to have a drink at the right time, but many of ours seem to take the piss and regularly go over the top or put themselves ins tupid situations.

People that can afford to waste 300 quid are idiots. People who put the odd quid on an accumulator are dreamers but doing no harm.

£300 is nothing for a pro footballer at our club.

Betting big and/or regularly is a mugs game though.

Bookies will win in the long run.

This is all well and good but surely this type of moral boosting leads to other problems. E.G Koumas and Chops seen in the bookies blowing big money and in casino's in the early hours.

For nearly 6 years, i have had to have counselling

All very true comments on here. The players have to many addictions in this squad and they need to be sorted. They get paid massive wages and with that comes responsibility.
