A member of staff at Costco told me that if you display a receipt for that days shopping on your windscreen you can stay as long as you like, including going to the match. I'm not sure if asda have different rules for their part of the Car Park.

These so called 'companies' can threaten all they want, but at the end of the day what company would pay big court costs to chase after a measly £60? Take my advice, ignore the letters, don't answer their phone calls either it's a huge scam.

There was an item on watchdog a while back where these clamping merchants were set up. Basically they parked a car in a renown clamping spot and surely enough they arrived. They clamped the car and demanded payment of £200 to release the car. They had a time limit to pay otherwise they would send out a tow truck to take the car away which incurred another cost of £150 then a further £140 to get the car out of the pound. A total of £490 and they had parked there for 5 minutes and the driver had not left the car!

If you join the casino they will give you a ticket to put in your windscreen to say that you are visiting there!

I have yet to get done but thats just luck. I am all for not paying and I agree they would be unlikely to take you to court chasing a measley £60. The problem we have though is that some people who have posted on this site have ignored them and would seem to have got away with it but several fans have posted to say that they have had letters whereby the debt has been passed on to a debt collection agency. In these cases it is apparent that they fully intend to push the issue all the way and many people would bottle out at this stage. The trouble is that by then the debt has signifigantly increased from the original fine. The 2 questions that remain unanswered for me is why in some cases do the parking companies only send letters to some and in other cases they pass the issue on to a debt collection agency ? The second question is, has anyone got to the stage where they have had a letter from a debt collection agency and managed to fight off the action?

If the parking company collect all the cash then they don't have to pay any commission to the debt collecting agency.

However, if their initial attempts to recover the £60 fine fail they will often at first threaten a referral to a debt collection agency and then as a final solution pass it over if you have still failed to respond.

The truth is the debt collection agencies are as impotent as the original parking company. I could paper the living room wall with the letters I have received from various DDA’s and I have never paid a penny to them.

If you want a tip, reply to the debt collection agency via Email and state that you fully dispute that you owe any money to their client and if they believe that there is a 'debt' then they should take court action where you fully intend to defend yourself.

Further add that any correspondence from now on will be treated as an attempt to obtain monies by menaces and civil harassment. Make it clear that you hold the person whose name appears at the bottom of letter responsible and that name will be forwarded to the Police. (Make the Email FAO for that person ;) )

I assure you within days you will receive a letter from the debt collection agency stating that after reading your comments they have returned the file back to their client and you won't hear another word from them or the client.

most of theses firms have thier own in house dca, so no cost involved to these firms. when a dca buys a debt they usually buy them in bulk ,say 500 at a time for a couple of hundred £, then hinder the poor pearson untill some mug pays up, and theres always one ,heance that is why they hinder you. to get any money off you they would have to take you to the county court, you can then move to the county court near to you,so the dca ain't going travel from leeds etc to get a judgment against you for £60 . just throw the tickets away

I had a police ticket a few years back down the street on the way to Canton rugby. It said 'unneccesary obstruction' (I was parked on the grass). I contacted them asking what was I obstructing, they told me to write in and they'll investigate.

I wrote in and asked whilst also mentioning the massive yellow sticker on my window which I could not get off, therefore causing me an 'unnecessary obstruction' and it was dangerous for me to drive. I asked what they would do about this and the police replied with "on this occasion we have decided not follow this matter any further". RESULT.
