Roy Shaw, AKA Pretty boy Shaw, I have met him several times, he ain't a huge bloke, mind you he got fists the size of cabbages.Apparently he's a bit poorly now but up until last year 70 plus or not he still had the frightening look and aura about him.

Lovely bloke and I used to get on well with him ( made sure I did  ) but you just new he had those cold killer eyes, but a hard hard man, if he told you it was Tuesday, then it was Tuesday. :?

Remember him playing for the Blue Dragons Rugby League team a good few years ago, you are correct he was one hard b*stard, only about 5'10" and 13 stone but would hit anything that moved. Rermember him making a tackle on a prop from another team, literally went in head first against the other guys head, mistimed it slightly and broke his nose, just carried on regardless, no sponge man and never even stopped for any medical attention. They don't make them like him any more, sad to hear he's dead. RIP

I used to work with Woodsy's daughter. Lovely girl and his death hit her really hard. Passed away from cancer sadly. Talking of hard Welshman don't think they came any tougher than Malcolm Price from Merthyr. Closer to home for me a couple of local legends were Mike Shellard and Phil Thomas.

Both McClean and Shaw's books are good reads; although it has been claimed both stretched the truth a bit. Shaw was a proper lunatic and spent time in Broadmoor. The hardest of the lot though is accounts be believed was Bartley Gorman, the Gypsy King. Think he went 20 years without losing a bareknuckle fight and took on all comers. His book is a good read too.

Mclean and Shaw were certainly tough men but both boxed professionally and didn't rise to the top, that says a lot I think, indeed Mclean was knocked out in the first round twice in his brief boxing career and Shaw struggled to beat an injured Ron Stander, an american journeyman. There is a fella from Cardiff who was incredibly tough and a devastating street fighter, he's getting on a bit now but few if any ever got the better of him, his name is Marlo Offside.

There was a bloke who played in the same blue dragons team as Paul "yozzer" Woods who was a lot harder, Alan Evans from Bridgend, he was one scary bloke.
