On 7 March 2010, Ramsey was arrested on suspicion of fraud after an anonymous person tipped them off about him walking fine and without the use of crutches. It later turned out that Ramsey had in fact pretended to break his leg in order for Stoke player Shawcross to pay him compensation. In June 2010, Ramsey pleaded guilty to these charges and currently has a 6 month prison sentence suspended for a year. He was also fined £50,000 and forced to do 100 hours of unpaid work.
