he did say 46m in press conference before the liverpool bid came in , the quote you mention he said couple days later

Would have had a lot more respect for him if he'd waited until summer before handing transfer request in. Coming across as a real greedy b*stard.

he said 46 mill because thats how much they would get at end of season for staying in the premiership,how many players are loyal now they are all mostly chasing the pound nowadays.
Theres no Tony Adams ,Ryan Giggs etc left no more the majority are only after the biggest pay packet imo
