The Best thing about Following the City away?

Mon Jan 11, 2010 12:53 pm

For me I love that we are all from the same area really (South Wales), I mean the Big Clubs like Man U and Liverpool dont get that. Also Love away games as the Fans are so much louder etc.#
So what is the best thing about following the City away for you then?

Everything about the whole trip. All the hard work in getting all your mates to actually buy the tickets and making travel arrangements (not an easy task sometimes), planning the journey (Notts Co over the Severn Bridge), numerous piss stops on the way up, finding out where City are drinking, getting into the ground to find you're in bandit country and are surronunded but are still making more noise than the home fans, going mental when we score, screaming abuse when they score, walking proud through hostile crowds when we win, running the gauntlet when we don't, numerous piss stops on the way home, stopping off in hostile territory on the way home for a pint.

I can't make too many aways this season, but all this brings a tear of nostalgia to my eye

I've been unable to make away games this season due to finances but used to go to a good few every season. My best memory was Walsall away when we scored the equaliser late on... I think it was Gareth Whalley of all characters. We had one whole end to ourselves and part of another stand. Such a great atmosphere.

West Brom away a few years back was also great. It was just after Christmas and everyone turned up steaming. Just minutes before kick off they played Britney Spears' Toxic and everyone in our end went mental. So funny.

Beating Forest 1-0 last year was funny too. Shouting 'Scabs!' constantly really wound them up. The smash and grab 1-0 win also helped!

for me the best is the fun bus as you do it every trip but so many different things happen every time, never the same, never dull. my favourite was not so long ago, arsenal away in the cup as we left at 8am (ko at 7.45pm) plenty of beer time
took over 7000 for mid week and totally out sung them for 90 min. "4-0 and you still dont sing," "were guna win 5-4" those cockneys just did nt get it, priceless. great stadium too.

This is going to sound really sloppy but as an ex-pat the only time I see another Cardiff fan is at a game, if its home or away. The big difference to me and the best thing about an away game is the fact when you walk into an away pub full of Cardiff fans you feel like part of the family that is Cardiff City. I dont get that feeling when I travel to Cardiff for a game.

Baked, it's totally true. At away games you do get that feeling of a Cardiff City family. All the fans are truly in it together. I also think the away fans are more level headed and more willing to give their undying support to the club, and that, to me, is what Cardiff City is all about.

Sheffield United away this season was an example... We were all crapping ourselves that they were about to equalise but that was no object, we kept on singing, winding up the Pigs fans in the South Stand and hoping that we'd finally get a win in Yorkshire.

as mad as it sounds, the old days when we languished in the lower divisions, but played with passion, and on the terraces we roared ,no old bill meetings,no cameras, and free to roam the other cities we took over.we will never get them days back.but hopefully the premiership is not just a dream+we can get there soon
