O/T Jak Jones

Sat May 04, 2024 10:40 pm

Good luck to Jak Jones, the Welsh qualifier who is in the World Snooker Championship Final across Sunday and Monday.

The 30-year-old from Cwmbran is currently ranked 44th in the world but will move into the top 16 following his run to the final in this tournament.

Jones is looking to become just the third qualifier to win the tournament, after Terry Griffiths and Shaun Murphy.

He plays Kyren Wilson who has made the final once before but lost, so there will be a first time winner.

I think Wilson will just edge it, he looks hungry. Both players have played some fantastic snooker at this year’s World Championship.

Fingers crossed for Jak Jones.

Good Luck to Jak - He said he is not doing anything special but he has worked his way to that final .

That's right. He hasn't done anything special, but he has been extremely consistent. Just goes to show how much consistency means. Something we haven't been, apart from being consistently inconsistent. :banghead: Good luck for the final

Major complaints against his method of playing and the time he's generally taking? On one pot he missed ball 7 times!!! That equates to probably 10mins of time....

Many different ways to play Snooker.

The likes of O’Sullivan/Trump play a quick game and have found success. But you can also say that Selby/John Higgins play a slower game and have also won world titles.

It’s like back in the days of Steve Davis and Alex Higgins. He didn’t play anywhere near as quick as Higgins, but Davis won six world titles.

He’s in the World Championship final so his way of doing it is working. Great underdog story and fingers crossed he can get over the line.

This final could be over very quickly.

Wilson leads 6-0.

At this rate, he will have effectively won it by the end of tonight.

Step too far for Jones I think, but should be proud to get where he has.

Anyone else think Shaun Murphy isn’t a fan of Jak. He’s giving him a right hard time.

Maybe there are still hopes of a competitive final.

Jak Jones wins the second session 5-4.

He still trails 11-6 going into tomorrow’s final two sessions, but he’s back in the match now.

End of the second session and Jak Jones currently trails Kyren Wilson by 5 frames. The score is now 11-6 to Wilson. An unbelievable effort to claw it back by the man from Cwmbran!!

Sets it up perfectly for tomorrow. C’mon Jak Jones!!!!!!!!

He’ll be kicking himself that he didn’t close that last frame out.

I think he’s mates with Kyren Wilson.

They come from nearby places and play the game a similar way.

So probably more that he wants Wilson to win.

Sean Murphy is a narcissistic fool. Can’t stand the bloke.

Gutted he lost that last frame.

Agree.

I can never understand why he does punditry for the BBC while he’s still in a tournament. It must take away some of his focus for his performances in the tournament.

The likes of O’Sullivan, Robertson, Trump, Lisowski etc do a bit of punditry but only after they’ve been knocked out of a tournament which makes more sense.

He must absolutely hate the Welsh!

Good start to the day for Jak Jones

They share the third session 4-4.

Jones had his chances to win more and probably needed to if he was going to have a decent chance of winning this final.

Wilson leads 15-10 going into tonight’s final session in a race to 18.

He’s made too many basic errors here. The occasion has got to him and I think he’s done. Brilliant achievement and hope he kicks on from here.

Kyren Wilson wins the World Snooker Championship.

He beats Jak Jones 18-14 in the final. Wasn’t a final that will live long in the memory, but Wilson won’t care.

Congratulations to him, a well liked player and a worthy winner.

Just one game too far for Jak Jones. Made a lot of mistakes, but did well to make a match of it after being 7-0 down.

Still a great tournament for him and he’s now rocketed up into the top 16.

I’m happy for Wilson, he’s worked so hard to get it and he’ll be a worthy champion.

Jak did so well to get back into it, but as you said, he made quite a few mistakes.

Shame he started so badly. A better start I think he goes on to win. Think the occasion was to much for him and he’s was shattered from the previous rounds.
