Rushworth: Swans fired up for derby

Swansea players are already revved up for the derby against Cardiff, Swans 'keeper Carl Rushworth has said.

The Swans face their two most local teams in their next two matches, with Bristol City this weekend and the Bluebirds at the Swansea.com Stadium next weekend

And Rushworth says that having two derbies back-to-back has served to pump up Luke Williams' squad.

"The lads are up for it (Bristol City) and Cardiff - the lads have been looking towards those games," said Rushworth. It's really good we have a bit of momentum after the last two wins and now a draw going into them.

"They are big derbies and all the lads are psyched up for it. We need to get back at them because obviously the results did not go our way last time."

Nice to see them having to talk themselves into the game for once. They haven’t had to do that recently. Let’s hope the pressure gets to them and we do the doube so they can stop mentioning that as well as their pathetic “swim away”’

Luke Williams says Swansea City "cannot wait" for the south Wales derby despite a dispiriting defeat at Bristol City.

Swansea saw their three-match unbeaten run come to an end as a Rob Dickie goal settled a drab game at Ashton Gate.

Sunday's loss leaves Swansea only five points clear of the Championship's bottom three going into next Saturday's meeting with Cardiff City.

But Swans boss Williams says league position has no bearing on what is "massive" fixture.

"It's an incredible occasion in the calendar," said Williams, who is preparing for his first Welsh derby as Swansea's head coach.

"It's something we all look forward to. I know it's something everyone looks for first as soon as the fixtures come out.

"We are very disappointed at this moment in time but we will pick ourselves up and prepare for what will be a fantastic occasion. We cannot wait."

Cardiff will travel west on the back of a rousing four-match winning streak which has revived hopes of a late-season play-off push.
