Rafa Benitez’s current contract at Newcastle expires at the end of June but he has revealed the situation regarding his future remains unchanged.

“We are at the same point – no news,” the Spaniard said. “I finish my contract on June 30. I am a professional and I have a lot of things I want to do well.

“I cannot say to anyone about his future because I don’t know about my future. It is not me telling players that I will not extend your contract. It is not my responsibility at the moment.

“What I have to do is prepare the team the best way possible for the next games, starting with the next one against Southampton.”

They need to give him whatever he wants to keep him.
