Cardiff City hope to complete £18m Emiliano Sala deal ahead of Newcastle trip as striker pulls out of Nantes squad - reports

Cardiff City are reportedly poised to complete a move for striker Emiliano Sala, with the striker set to pull out of the Nantes squad for tonight's clash with Nimes.

16/01/19

That's according to Sky Sports News, who claim Cardiff are even hopeful of including the Argentine striker in the squad for the weekend's crunch clash with Newcastle United, with an improved £18 million deal mooted.

It comes after reports in France earlier today had indicated that Nantes had 'called off' negotiations, claiming that Nantes had rejected City's offer of €15million (£13million), amid suggestions they were looking for a price tag closer to the €22million mark for the 28-year-old forward.

It would appear they have got their wish.

However, this latest twist suggests those issues may well have now been resolved, adding another chapter to what has been a draining saga for Cardiff and boss Neil Warnock.

Sala, who currently has 18 months to run on his current deal at Nantes, was initially believed to be sceptical of a move to the Welsh capital, before arriving for talks with the club on Monday.

Those talks were believed to be positive and, despite the alleged setback this morning, the player is now believed to be on the verge of completing a long-awaited move.

Should he be in the squad for the trip to Tyneside, it will come as a huge boost to Warnock, who's seemingly otherwise running thin on attacking options, admitting to playing Callum Paterson and Victor Camarasa in the disappointing 0-0 draw with Huddersfield Town, despite the duo lacking full fitness.

Speaking to TalkSport on Wednesday morning, Warnock said: "We were poor last weekend (against Huddersfield) but I played three lads who probably weren't fit enough and shouldn't have played. I gambled and it didn't work to be honest.

"The intensity of the Premier League, the physical aspect is quite remarkable. It's no shock when muscle injuries happen and things like that.

"We've lost a couple when we've brought them on as a sub and they've got injured straight away.

"So we're looking at better warm ups and things like that. It can't be coincidental these lads come on and get injured."

They've probably just tweaked the financial arrangements rather than increased offer

PErsoanlly I feel it’s two games to late, we needed him
Before Huddersfield, we needed to beat them and pick up atleast a draw from Newcastle, imo we will lose to Newcastle without a striker.

Probably not, just drawn out difficult negotiations, but it looks like we've come to a positive agreement!

I have the same opinion as all along we have heard fake news and even NW has stated the player has never said he wasn't interested in coming here even though it was reported.
I have faith in the club to get Sala and maybe 2 or 3 other signings :bluebird:

Sala IS set to play for Nantes tonight

As we reported earlier, it had been claimed in some circles that Emilano Sala was due to pull out of the Nantes squad for tonight’s clash with Nimes.

It now appears as though the striker is set to play for the Ligue 1 outfit after all, with the club posting this on their official Twitter page.

Very debatable if the deal is on if he plays tonight.
Player could get injured and would Nantes jeopardise the move for themselves and the player.

How do you know its sala and not his agent or his club. If he has a few options he has the right to think before upping and moving to a foreign country. Im sure you wouldnt find it an easy decision. And remember its us that approched him not him asking us so its cardiffs job to convince him its a good move and it seems they have
