Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock says he stands by his Brexit comments after the club made a move to distance themselves from their manager's political views.

Warnock's comments prompted quite a reaction in the aftermath of Cardiff's 0-0 draw with Huddersfield on Saturday.

In his post-match press conference, Warnock was asked whether the Brexit process could affect transfers.

He replied: "I think once the country knows what they’re doing, it will be straightforward [to make signings] … Any transfer window is difficult for me, not just this one.

“I don’t know why politicians don’t do what the country wants, if I’m honest. They had a referendum and now we see different politicians and everyone else trying to put their foot in it … Why did we have a referendum in the first bloody place?

“I can’t wait to get out of it, if I’m honest. I think we’ll be far better out of the bloody thing. In every aspect. Football-wise as well, absolutely. To hell with the rest of the world.”

His comments prompted quite a reaction, with Match of the Day host Gary Lineker being among those reacting to the views.

On Monday, the club made a move to distance themselves from those views.

In a statement, a Cardiff City spokesperson said: "Comments made by our manager following Saturday’s fixture are representative of his personal political stance.

"These comments do not reflect the political position of Cardiff City Football Club, nor its Board of Directors."

The veteran boss has now reaffirmed his stance and said he stands by what he has said.

Warnock told The Times: "I don’t mind at all if the club want to make sure it’s clear that it is my own personal opinion and not the club’s policy.

"If they feel they want to put out a statement saying that, then that’s fine by me, and I stand by what I have said too."

It comes as Nantes striker Emiliano Sala is in the Welsh capital, with the Bluebirds looking like they could be on the verge of a breakthrough in their pursuit of new signings.

More classic Fake News and Clickbate.

Anyone really believe that the Club made any move on this story today, after all there is no "Official" statement on the club website, just a claim that a "Spokesman" made the statement or maybe just answered a loaded question. As far a Gary Lineker is concerned his reaction was a two word tweet with an emoji, major stuff no doubt.

Now the London based media are in on the act and the story gets bigger bringing with it more clicks on to websites and generating lots of lovely revenue from their advertisers.

As I say FAKE NEWS and CLICKBATE.

Isnt it nice that we can all have a different opinion ? , Neil is entitled to his , Lineker entitled to his and me mine.
Lineker doesnt like anyone to have an opinion that is anything other than remain.
Luckily we live in a free country - where most of us allow others to have an opinion

The Remain media have tried to make out he was ranting, raving and spitting feathers...

Said it was a "bizarre" yet was just answering a direct question...

This country and dare I say most of the world is in the shit as the PC brigade come by and take away all of our freedoms in the most underhand and dispacble ways possible.

All Remain bang on about is how holier than thou they are to everyone else.... Yet one of their main arguments is that the "older generation are being greedy"... Ageism is just as disgusting as racism. :banghead:

I think the "hell to the rest of the world" was a bit distasteful considering his position. Just didn't need saying.

Would you rather him be a characterless robot like the other 99% of managers, pundits and footballers. He's a brash character and he says what he wants, that's why we love him.

No but it doesn't hurt to think before you speak.

it's not a good idea for a football manager (or anyone in football) to start engaging in political discussion, let alone something as divisive as brexit. no doubt had he come out in favour of remain, he would have gotten plaudits from the corporate media and champagne socialist celebrities.

that said, the majority of cardiff city fans are brexiteers, so his popularity has if anything gone up here.

he was asked and answered. its not like its been an ongoing theme with him. its clearly his view not the clubs so there was no real need for the media to report what seems an invisible ink club statement distancing themselves.

Agreed he is a manager with foreign players, this is one area he should stay out of and be more diplomatic, football wise fine, but politics is not really something he should comment on, the press will try and trap you and hang you out to dry if they can.

I understand why he answered the question and don't have any problem with him having an opinion on Brexit, I just don't think its needed for the manager of our football club with foreign owners, foreign player, trying to deal with foreign clubs and I would guess some foreign fans to say "To hell with the rest of the world". I just think it wasn't needed, the rest of it I take no issue with.
