NEWCASTLE UPDATE:

“Newcastle United midfielder’s Jonjo Shelvey and Mo Diame face late fitness tests to determine whether they will be involved against Cardiff City on Saturday.
“But the early news on Isaac Hayden’s fitness appears more positive, with the 23-year-old expected to be ready to face the Bluebirds, despite suffering a knock to his hip during Tuesday night’s FA Cup replay victory over Blackburn Rovers.
“However, Ki Sung-yueng’s continued involvement in the Asian Cup - South Korea have qualified from their pool and will play their last-16 tie on Tuesday, though they are expected to progress even further - means that Rafa Benitez is still desperately short of midfield options ahead of Newcastle’s most important match of the season so far.”

NEWCASTLE INJURIES:

Newcastle played Blackburn

Ciaran Clark, Jamal Lascelles and Isaac Hayden all came off injured during the game, with Rafa Benitez revealing the scale of the injuries afterwards.

The Magpies also have Jonjo Shelvey, Kenedy and Paul Dummett all doubtful for the game against Cardiff this weekend.

“Clark I don’t think will be very serious, he took a kick on his knee, had inflammation. Jamaal we will have to wait because it is a hamstring. Hayden was fine, he had a kick in the back.”
Benitez

About Newcastle United

Newcastle United Football Club is an English professional association football club based in Newcastle upon Tyne, that plays in the Premier League, the top tier of English football. Newcastle United was founded in 1892 by the merger of Newcastle East End and Newcastle West End, and has played at its current home ground, St James' Park, ever since. The ground was developed into an all-seater stadium in the mid-1990s and has a capacity of 52,354.

The club has been a member of the Premier League for all but three years of the competition's history, spending 85 seasons in the top tier as of May 2016, and has never dropped below English football's second tier since joining the Football League in 1893. They have won four League Championship titles, six FA Cups and a Charity Shield, as well as the 1969 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup and the 2006 UEFA Intertoto Cup. Newcastle United has the ninth highest total of trophies won by an English club. The club's most successful period was between 1904 and 1910, when they won an FA Cup and three of their First Division titles. The club were highly successful in the Premier League in the 1990s and early 2000s without winning any trophies, but have been mostly struggling since the 2006–07 season, and were relegated in 2009 and 2016. They returned to the Premier League for the 2017–18 season after winning the Championship title the preceding year.

Newcastle has a fierce local rivalry with Sunderland, and the two clubs have engaged in the Tyne–Wear derby since 1898. The club's traditional kit colours are black and white striped shirts, black shorts and black socks. Their traditional crest takes elements of the city coat of arms, which features two grey seahorses. Prior to each home game the team enters the field to "Local Hero", written by Newcastle native Mark Knopfler, while "Blaydon Races" is invariably sung during games.

The club has been owned by Mike Ashley since 2007, succeeding long term chairman and owner Sir John Hall. The club is the 17th-highest revenue producing club in the world in terms of annual revenue, generating €169.3 million in 2015. Historically, Newcastle's highest placing was in 1999, when they were the fifth-highest revenue producing football club in the world, and second in England only behind Manchester United.

Previous Meeting

We drew 0-0 at home to Newcastle United earlier this season, although Issac Hayden was sent off for the Magpies. Kenedy missed a last minute penalty for the visitors, in of the worst individual performances the Premier League has ever seen.

Before the match on Saturday afternoon, Newcastle have to go to Blackburn in an FA Cup Third Round replay. It’s live on BT Sport.

Today, after we drew 0-0 with Huddersfield at home, Newcastle lost 2-1 at Chelsea.

Cardiff City are 17th, and Newcastle United are 18th - with just one point separating the two.

I think our players are showing signs of burning out.
Camarasa looks doubtful for this one and without him up there we have no chance.

Trying not to be down about it but see nothing but a Newcastle win unless we sign reinforcements

I’m personally looking forward to the game. I can’t see us getting anything from the game, IMO it’ll be 2/3 - 0 to Newcastle. A good away day though, proper stadium with proper fans. We’ve got to try an enjoy these trips as it sure has hell beats an away trip to Preston or Bolton in the Championship.

Just don’t see us creating enough. The mentality of not losing rather than try to win seems to have worked its way into our home form now, and agree with a previous post that the players are starting to look tired. He doesn’t seem to trust Murphy and Reid, who would have been a breath of fresh air in Saturday’s game. So looks like Patterson is going to plough a lone furrow again saturday.

I think the imminent signing of Emiliano Sala (playing at Toon Town or not) will have a positive effect on Saturday and I'm thinking we could now take something out of the game...and just a point will do, as it keeps us out of the bottom three! :thumbright:

Newcastle won 4-2 at Blackburn tonight, after extra time - it finished 2-2 in normal time.

But it came at a cost.

Their first choice centre backs Jamaal Lascelles and Ciaran Clark both had to go off with injuries. Isaac Hayden, who was sent off in our 0-0 draw against Newcastle at the Cardiff City Stadium earlier this season, and Fabian Schar both also picked up knocks in Extra Time.

Newcastle suffer injuries ahead of Cardiff clash

Newcastle needed extra-time to beat Blackburn 4-2 in their FA Cup third round tie last night, but it came at a cost.

Newcastle facing midfield crisis

18/01/19

This from the Newcastle Chronicle this morning:

I was just going to ask was Zohore fit?

He may now risk one of them, I think Patterson is carrying a knock, and it also looked like Arter and Camarasa were.

It will be really interesting to see the team tomorrow?
