The dramatic shift in Cardiff City's Premier League survival odds
Tuesday 11th December 2018
Bookmakers have dramatically changed their stance on Cardiff City's chances of retaining their Premier League status having previously written off the Bluebirds' hopes of avoiding relegation.
Despite their stunning promotion from the Championship last term, Neil Warnock's men were widely tipped for the drop come the end of the 2018/19 campaign before a ball was even kicked.
And following the 2-1 defeat to Burnley at the end of September, the Bluebirds were 1/5 favourites with William Hill to be relegated from the top flight.
They also offered odds of 10/1 on Cardiff to finish the season with 10 or fewer points - a tally they have already surpassed - while they were willing to give punters odds of 16/1 for the Bluebirds to end the campaign without a league win to their name.
Since the 2-1 loss to the Clarets, Warnock's troops have won four of their nine league fixtures, the latest of which came against Southampton at Cardiff City Stadium.
Victory moved Cardiff up to 14th place in the table and four points clear of the drop zone.
And in the aftermath of the 1-0 triumph against the Saints, Sky Bet are now offering odds of 10/11 for Cardiff to stay up, with Burnley being the 1/2 favourites to go down.
They have Huddersfield Town as the 4/7 second favourites to be relegated this term while Fulham and the Bluebirds are 5/6 to go down.
All four of Cardiff's wins this season have come on their home turf, and Warnock's side go in search of their first away success of the campaign when they take on Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday afternoon.
They end 2018 with fixtures against Manchester United, Crystal Palace and Leicester City.
