Richard Scudamore to accept £5m bonus. Will be kept on by Premier League in consultancy role.

“ Cardiff City asked to pay £250,000 “

BBC

Tuesday 13th November 2018

All 20 Premier League clubs have been asked for a £250,000 contribution so that the league's outgoing executive chairman Richard Scudamore can be given a £5m farewell gift.

The clubs were asked for the money before a meeting on Tuesday.

It is expected they will agree to Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck's request.

Scudamore, 59, who is reportedly paid £2.5m per season, is stepping down next month after 19 years at the organisation.

The league's UK television rights were valued at around £670m when he joined, and the last deal was worth £5.14bn.

Buck, who has developed a close friendship with Scudamore since becoming Chelsea chairman in 2003, received backing from top-flight clubs during a meeting at Premier League headquarters in London.

Should every club contribute, the outgoing boss will receive an additional £5m windfall as a token of appreciation for his successful tenure.

"We expect to make an appropriate appointment in good time so there can be a seamless transition," Buck said after Scudamore's departure was announced in June.

The Chelsea chairman has been leading the search for Scudamore's successor along with Leicester City chief executive Susan Whelan and Burnley chairman Mike Garlick.

Scudamore joined the Premier League in November 1999 as chief executive before moving to his current role in June 2014.

the premier league is now arguably the greatest league across any sport, in the world. how much of that is down to scudamore?

he's basically made tens of millions for sitting back and watching BT and Sky bid TV rights ever upwards. he can go f**k himself - he'll already be getting a fat severance no doubt.

Hope everyone tells them to go f**k themselves, he had enough money

The players in the Premier League are ideally placed to stump this money up themselves.

Bloody ridiculous, what’s wrong with a leaving card and a bottle of his favourite tipple like every other person gets when they leave a job.

Why don't the players donate from their own wage packets. After all if it wasn't for Scudamore and others then their wages wouldn't be anywhere near the levels they are.

Man does job he's been exceedingly well paid for.

Leaves job and gets given another £5m for nothing.

The lunatics have indeed taken over the asylum.

He's done an excellent job. Can argue over the sum of the money but it's not really the point. The clubs own the premier League so any of the money would have to come from them.

It would certainly be a nice gesture considering what he's done over the last 19 years for football in this country

£5 million a NICE GESTURE??? All the guy has done is his job and help make hundreds of completely average players and blood sucking agents multi millionaires

Premier league takes the piss at times

Mate you wanna lay off the party powder, if you think giving someone 5 mill for their service to their role is a kind gesture then you must surely live in the narnia!

How much is that off everyone's season ticket. 250,,,,000 shared between all seazon ticket holders.

And this most ridulous suggestion comes from his close Chelski mate called Bruce 'Buck'.

How about Scudamore and Bucky starting an initiative where the PL agents pay a percentage of their eye-watering multi-millions into grass roots football? After all, that's what was apparently going to happen when Wembley got sold to Happy Clapping Fulham.

£250,000 would be enough to give every single season ticket holder, a free burger and a couple of free pints at the next home game or £15 off the price of nexts year ticket...or they can give it as a bonus to a multi millionaire businessman for just doing his job..I know what I would prefer

He's on £2.5mil a year anyway it's insane. Surely the FA should pay him off instead of the club's?

Cardiff City are willing to pay towards a £5million 'golden handshake' for outoging Premier League chief Richard Scuadmore.

Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck has proposed the 20 top flight clubs contribute £250,000 each as a farewell gift to the executive chairman, with only five clubs opposing the ideas.

Cardiff are understood to be among those happy to contribute with Wolves and Fulham in opposition.

Bluebirds chief executive Ken Choo told the BBC: "He (Scudamore) has done a great job.

"He has moved the Premier League on to another level, and he has allowed someone new his successor to take it further now. He deserves the recognition."

Scudamore, 59, joined the Premier League in November 1999 as chief executive before being appointed executive chairman in 2014.

Susanna Dinnage has been appointed to succeed him, becoming the first ever female Premier League chief executive.

That's where I get confused. So the Premier league and the Football league are separate entities from the FA?

Yeah mate.

The premier League is effectively owned by the 20 clubs

don't think it fair that we are asked to pay the same as the likes of the Manchester clubs ...we don't get an equal share of the TV money.......or have we benefitted for the length of time other clubs have from his apparently excellent work..
should he rewarded 5mill ? im not sure...……...but I do think our share of any golden handshake should be about 10% of what the top 6 pay..

the money is initially shared out equally though and the rest is incentive based and the reason we are involved and perhaps not others who have been in the premier league for longer is that its a body that is literally owned by the 20 clubs that reside in the league at any one time .

The greed is quite staggering!

Being kept on in a consultancy role - no doubt he's not offering his magnificent consulting abilities for nothing so that will be even more money in his pocket with a fat salary and probably another pay off when he stops his consultancy role :o

You really couldn't make it up.
