:bluebird: :bluebird: " NEIL WARNOCK UPDATES CARDIFF CITY FANS " :bluebird: :bluebird:

Friday 19th October 2018

NEIL WARNOCK:

Must-win against Fulham?

We’ve got three out of four home games which are vital and we’ve got to get points to put us back in the back. We’ve had opportunities to get more points but we’ve got to grasp those opportunities now, we can’t be moaning about it.”

NEIL WARNOCK:

Injury news

"Ironically Joe Ralls was bad when he got sent off and we’ve done some checks and he’s chipped a bone in his knee, so he’ll be out for a few weeks. He could have told me that"

"(Alex) Smithies has had a bad shoulder injury and he’ll be back on the bench tomorrow. (Gary) Madine has got a virus so he’s struggling and on top of (Danny) Ward it means we’re short in the striker area. (Aron) Gunnarsson has done some work and he’ll be involved tomorrow. Start or on the bench, we’ll decide that tomorrow."

Neil Warnock's thoughts on Fulham

NEIL WARNOCK:

"I did think they would be mid table if I’m honest, with the amount of money they’ve spent. But it shows that money doesn’t always talk. But they’ve got some tremendous players, a lad on loan who cost £30m last season. It’s about consistency, getting those players knitted together. I like the manager too, he’s a solid bloke.”

:bluebird: ' EVERYTHING NEIL WARNOCK HAD TO SAY / SEE BELOW ' :bluebird:

Neil Warnock on Fulham's danger man

NEIL WARNOCK:

"If we’d had got Mitrovic, we’d be in a better position than we are now. We couldn’t afford him but he can handle himself, he’s a threat and wants to play. It’s a good test for us. We were told last year how good Fulham were but it didn’t phase us."

"It’s different now as we didn’t spend that kind of money, but we’ve got to keep firing and the lads have to come up with a clean sheet and a couple of goals. Money isn’t everything but if we’d had signed a Mitrovic we’d have been sorted. It’s difficult at this level unless you’ve got that £20m-£30m.”

Neil Warnock feeling the pressure?

NEIL WARNOCK:

"If we were playing poorly, I could grasp it, but we’re not. We’re playing quite well! We’ve got to work a bit harder to create and have that desire to get points from these three games, we’ve got Leicester and Brighton as well."

"It looks bleak, we’re 1-4 for relegation but the pleasing thing for me is that the training is fantastic and I’ve been in groups where you get a bad taste in the mouth. It’s frustrating for me as I know we can get better results and should be on eight or nine points.”

Crunch time for Cardiff?

NEIL WARNOCK:

"Definitely. You look at the fixtures in the past few weeks and you can forgive one or two. But even the Chelsea game I was disappointed we didn’t come away with something. The only game we’ve been battered in is Man City. So we’ve been amongst it. As long as the lads give everything, we can get the results.”

Worth betting on Cardiff to stay up?

NEIL WARNOCK:

"If I was a betting man, no I wouldn’t. But I wouldn’t put a penny on us getting promotion last season.”

NEIL WARNOCK:

The latest on Danny Ward and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing

NEIL WARNOCK:

"Not as bad as we thought. He (Ward) might start training within a couple of weeks."

"Mendez-Laing is doing really well in the gym, working hard."

"They are on the way back but at the moment, we can’t consider these guys.”

NEIL WARNOCK:

Although Warnock admitted Cardiff were never truly in the hunt for Mitrovic in the summer, due to a lack of funds, he is a big admirer of Fulham's No.1 striker.

"I think if we’d had got Mitrovic, we’d be in a better position than we are if I'm honest," said Warnock when asked who he considers Fulham's biggest danger man.

"We couldn’t afford Mitrovic but if I could have done, I would have loved somebody like him.

"I think he epitomises English football really: he can handle himself, he knows how to get the free-kicks off the referees, he’s a threat and he just wants to play."

Warnock's comments on the Serbian international are in stark contrast to his recent musings on Zohore.

"Bruno isn’t even back until today - they go all the way around the world don’t they."

“We’re all the same though, some of the top teams have everyone away we only had seven."

“It’s recognition for the lads so you can’t stop that - but you can’t do too much for Fulham with some of them away.”

Cardiff City and Fulham have met in the Premier League twice previously – the Bluebirds won both games against the Cottagers during the 2013-14 season.

Fulham are without a clean sheet in their last 21 matches against Cardiff in all competitions – however, they haven’t lost any of their previous seven games against the Bluebirds (W3 D4 L0).

Fulham are the only team that Cardiff have beaten more than once in the Premier League (two wins) – in the top-flight, they’ve won four of their six meetings with the Cottagers (P6 W4 D1 L1).

In the last nine meetings between Cardiff and Fulham in all competitions, the side scoring first has gone on to win just twice (W2 D5 L2).

Cardiff are winless in their last 12 Premier League games (D3 L9), losing the last five in a row. They last lost six consecutive games in league competition back in November 1985.

Cardiff City reveal when they expect to welcome back Nathaniel Mendez-Laing

Friday 19th October 2018

Cardiff City have revealed that Nathaniel Mendez-Laing is making good progress on his bid to return from injury, adding that the winger could be back in first team contention by the end of November.

The winger has been sidelined for two months with a posterior cruciate ligament injury, and this latest update is likely to come as a boost to Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock, who continues his search for a first win of the season this weekend against old foe Slavisa Jokanovic and Fulham.

The lack of incisiveness in the final third has been a huge cause of concern for the Bluebirds, who lined up with Callum Paterson up front in the defeat to Tottenham before the international break - a decision that raised plenty of eyebrows and asked serious questions about the attacking options at Warnock's disposal.

Mendez-Laing's pace and dynamism made him one of Cardiff's shining lights under Warnock during the club's march promotion last season, and the winger featured in all of City's opening three games before his injury at the John Smith's Stadium.

But while the return of Aron Gunnarsson has been blighted by setbacks , Mendez-Laing's progress has looked far more promising.

Head of Medical Services, Matthew May told the club's official website:

Matthew May:

"He’s done really well. He’s a couple of months in post-injury now, and he’s just starting on the anti-gravity treadmill.

"There’ll be a two-week build-up on that before we’ll get him out on the grass. So, we’re hopefully looking to see him back to training and match-play around six weeks from now."

The 26-year-old has been joined on the treatment table by full-back Lee Peltier in recent weeks, and he claims the pair have been driving each other on in their respective fitness battles.

He said: "I’ve got a lot of good people around me, and the boys have been great, so hopefully I can get back as soon as possible.

"I’m in with Pelts now as well, it was unfortunate for him to get injured but he’s a good person to have with me because now we can push each other when we’re in the gym."

“Seeing the boys training every day is my motivation, I can’t wait to get back out there onto the pitch. I just want to go and help my teammates, so when I’m back that’s hopefully what I’m going to be able to do."

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing on his recovery

NEIL WARNOCK:

“It’s going quite well at the moment,”

“It’s all going to plan. I’ve been working hard with the fitness team in terms of my strength. The physios have been working with me every day, making sure that I’m recovering properly.
“It happens in football - you’ve just got to get on with it. I’ve got a lot of good people around me, and the boys have been great, so hopefully I can get back as soon as possible.
“I’m in with Pelts now as well, it was unfortunate for him to get injured but he’s a good person to have with me because now we can push each other when we’re in the gym.”

The reason behind Alex Smithies' absence explained as Cardiff City prepare to welcome back Aron Gunnarsson -

By Ian Mitchelmore

Friday 19th October 2018

Neil Warnock explained the mystery injury that has been ruling Alex Smithies out of action for the past seven weeks, though hinted that both the Cardiff City goalkeeper and midfield talisman Aron Gunnarsson are ready to return.

He also revealed Joe Ralls has suffered a chipped bone in his knee, which will sideline the midfielder - already suspended after his red card against Tottenham - for a few more weeks.

The Bluebirds will now make a decision on whether Gunnarsson will start against Fulham tomorrow (Saturday).

"Ironically enough, (Ralls) was bad when he got sent off (against Tottenham) and we’ve done some checks and he’s chipped a bone in his knee, so he’s going to be be out for a few weeks," said Warnock, before adding tongue-in-cheek: "He could have told me that before we appealed couldn't he?"

It leaves Cardiff threadbare in midfield with Harry Arter walking a disciplinary tight-rope after picking up four yellow cards this season.

Warnock hinted that forgotten Frenchman Loic Damour could return to the fold, having not featured in the league this season and confirmed he wants to bolster his midfield in the January transfer window.

"Loic Damour has done really well this last week, so he’s a bit of a forgotten lad," added Warnock.

"Harry is on four bookings so I don’t want him to get booked tomorrow because otherwise he'll be missing Liverpool.

"But then I think 'maybe just let him get booked if he wants and miss Liverpool'.

"I don't think you can stop Harry Arter though, he does what he wants really."

"So we're a bit short in that area and we're looking at improving the midfield area in January, along with a striker and a defender."

Gunnarsson, if fully fit, will be a welcome presence in the defensive midfield position Ralls has occupied this season, Warnock argued.

The Iceland captain, who has struggled with an ankle injury, hasn't featured for Cardiff since the 2-0 win over Hull City on the penultimate day of last season.

"Aron is a leader, he's good to have around, a calming influence if you like," he added.

"And I’m going to leave it to him, I'm not going to put any pressure on him.

"He’s got that aura about him that we’ve missed. So I’ll definitely play him if he thinks he’s alright. But he's got to be sensible on that.

"We're trying to coax him through. Whether he will start or on the bench, we’ll decide that later on."

On Smithies, whose absence has not been explained, Warnock revealed the goalkeeper he signed from QPR in the summer has been laid low by a shoulder problem.

"Smithies is back tomorrow, he's had a bad shoulder injury which didn't really respond to treatment," Warnock revealed.

"He's been training for this last 10 days and he’ll be back on the bench tomorrow.

"(Gary) Madine has got a virus so he’s struggling and on top of (Danny) Ward, it means we’re short in the strikers area."

Neil Warnock on Aron Gunnarsson

NEIL WARNOCK:

"Loic Damour has done really well the past couple of weeks so he’s a bit of a forgotten find. Harry has four bookings so I don’t want him to get booked - but then he’ll miss Liverpool so maybe just let him get booked! Harry Arter does what he wants, you can’t stop him."

"Aron is a leader, a calming influence and I’m going to leave it to him, not put any pressure on him. He’s got that aura about him that we’ve missed. So I’ll definitely play him if he thinks he’s alright."

"I know Aron 100 per cent, he’s so clued up and knows what he wants. He’s worked hard to get into this situation.”

Neil Warnock on Harry Arter and Cardiff City's midfield options

NEIL WARNOCK:

"You don’t get players like that on loan unless there’s something in their make-up. Eddie did warn me… he said he’d get booked in training."

"I tell him every day, during the game, at half-time, in the second half. But I might as well keep my mouth shut. I think Harry and Victor have done really well and I felt a bit sorry for Joe as he had to play a position he’s not used to in defensive midfield. The only other option at the start of the season was Sol Bamba.”

Pressure on managers ridiculous?

NEIL WARNOCK:

"No, not when you meet some fans, you realise they’re not a full shilling!"

"But I’m very lucky the fans here aren’t generally like that.
I look at the teams also in the bottom three and think ‘why can’t we get above them’. So it’s an interesting time at the moment.”

Neil Warnock's blunt verdict on Kenneth Zohore

NEIL WARNOCK:

"His training has been good and as a manager you try everything you can to get someone firing on all cylinders. Apart from cooking him a meal I don’t know what else to do with Ken. He’s got to stand up and say ‘I want that shirt’. He’s got every attribute but it’s disappointing he’s not got to that level. I think Ken will be here longer than me though if I’m honest.”

Are Fulham a big rival?

NEIL WARNOCK:

" We want to keep a clean sheet, be very solid at the back. I thought we did well with 10 men against Tottenham so with a massive support this weekend, we’ve got to get that first win on the board.”
