After umpteen years of enjoying Nescafe Gold Blend, Nescafe changed the product last year and I've finally decided enough is enough. It's now overpriced muck, undrinkable and I'm in the market for a replacement instant coffee.
So fellow coffee drinkers I would very much like your recommendations as I feel it's time to move on to pastures new. Nescafe, what have you done ?!

I drink three or four cups in the morning like clockwork,,, I moved away from instant coffee years ago.
I'd invest in a Tassimo machine & get there Costa Americano pods for a great cup of coffee. They have a good range of other coffee & tea pods too. Easy to use, & you have a cup of decent tasting coffee in a matter of seconds.
Nespresso machines are also good, you can pick any one of them relatively cheap if you look around. Honestly, try any of them out, & you wont go back to instant again.

Kenco for me but if you really want the best a friend brought me some back from North Africa, try one of the overseas shops, you need a perculator though.

The top rated was Lavazza VIA but the price is way out of my league.
Douwe Egbert's I found to be a bit lacking in bite, so failing all else I'll probably give Kenco a go.
The one thing I know is that Gold Blend will be given the boot.

im on Nescafe, moved from gold blend to gold black a few years back {they have now changed the name to gold intense }..
the price.? seems to bounce between 7.48 and 4.50 in most of the big supermarkets so I stock up when its 4.50

Depends what you're looking for .
The new Nespresso machine is good because you can actually get an actual cup sized cup of coffee instead of a sample and the quality isn't bad.
If you're going to make real coffee the best easily available ground coffee is Illy or Lavazza , but much better if you grind the beans fresh each time and the very best coffee beans will come from specialist suppliers . Most seem to agree that Blue Mountain beans are the best.
Now, if like me you're not inclined to bugger about too much and just want a decent coffee quickly you have to accept a bit of a drop in quality but I find Millicano or Lavazza whole ground very reasonable and quick.
I did used to drink alta Rica when it was about the best around but these days none of the mass market granule type instant coffees are worth drinking.

I live and work currently in a country that produces some of the most magnificent coffee.
I would advise Gorilla Conservation Coffee (
http://gorillaconservationcoffee.org/) - stunning and you can get it in some supermarkets in the UK and you get to save gorillas. I have seen the work first hand and its very impressive and gorgeous coffee.

I used to drink Nescafe Gold the same as yourself - until I discovered Aldi Gold Roast. I think the brand name is something like "Alcafe" lovely smooth coffee, it's in a big gold 100g jar and its only £1.99 - you'll never go back to Nescafe!

I prefer the Colombian coffee to the Americano but both are pretty good.
Also the Lor branded pods are worth a try- I prefer them to the Costa stuff.

Stop drinking it. Green tea is much better and has many many health benefits both mental and physical. Break the coffee habit now

How does this scheme of saving gorillas work ? Are there tokens on the packs which you stick on a card and you get an actual gorilla when you've saved up enough , or are they just pictures of gorillas on cards which you put in an album ?
I once worked with gorillas myself actually, many many years ago and they're certainly remarkable and intelligent creatures but I must say I'm surprised that they can be trained to conserve coffee - I'd be impressed enough if you could teach them to pick the stuff actually. I'll certainly look out for it in Sainsburys though, and I'll give it a go.
