Cardiff City and Swansea met in a behind-closed-doors friendly

It's been over four years since the last South Wales derby, but Cardiff City and Swansea did battle once again this afternoon.

While most of the attention from fans is likely to still be focused on Wales and their thumping win over Ireland last night, the nation's two biggest teams met at the Vale Resort for a behind-closed-doors friendly.

It was the Swans who emerged victorious, with Yan Dhanda breaking the deadlock after just six minutes, before Botti Biabi netted from the spot, which came after Jazz Richards fouled Courtney Baker-Richardson in the box.

The game, which finished 2-0 to the Swans, was held to give players vital game time during the international break.

Nathan Dyer captained the Swans for the whole 90 minutes, despite his recent exile from the first team set-up, while Luciano Narsingh and Wayne Routledge were also handed game time.

Tom Carroll, Kyle Naughton and Barrie McKay also started, while the Bluebirds did not release their teamsheet.

It's exactly 106 years to the day that the first derby was contested, with Swansea Town and Cardiff playing out a 1-1 draw at the Vetch Field back in 1912.

The last competitive meeting between the two sides also ended in victory for Swansea, with Routledge, Dyer and Wilfried Bony all on target in a 3-0 win in Garry Monk's first game in charge.

Swansea XI: Steven Benda, Wayne Routledge (Jordon Garrick, 68), Kyle Naughton, Ryan Blair, Matt Grimes (Joe Lewis, 68), Nathan Dyer (capt), George Byers, Yan Dhanda (Botti Biabi, 68), Tom Carroll (Adnan Maric, 60), Barrie McKay (Courtney Baker-Richardson, 60), Luciano Narsingh (Tyler Reid, 60).
