Team news: the new signings and players expected to be involved -
Monday 16th July 2018
Cardiff City new signings Josh Murphy, Greg Cunningham, Alex Smithies and Bobby Reid are all in contention to make their club debuts in the pre-season friendly against AFC Tavistock tonight.
The quartet, along with all the other Bluebirds first team players , watched on as a team comprising Under-23 stars beat Taffs Well 3-0 on Friday night.
They were seen signing autographs and posing for selfies with fans, with Neil Warnock now ready to step up their competitive involvement in the next week.
Others like Sean Morrison, Neil Etheridge, Bruno Manga and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing are also likely to feature.
Fringe players Lee Tomlin and Anthony Pilkington – who could both leave Cardiff this summer – were the only senior players to feature in Cardiff’s pre-season tour opener on Sunday, as the Under-23s beat Truro City 2-0 with goals from Pilkington and Jack McKay.
It’s the turn of Neil Warnock’s main stars at Langsford Park tonight, with only Sol Bamba and Aron Gunnarsson definitely due to miss the game, the latter because he has just linked up with the squad after World Cup action with Iceland.
Danny Ward and Kadeem Harris, who both missed large chunks of last season with injury, have also travelled with the Bluebirds squad to Devon and Cornwall and will play a part at some stage.
The same goes for those who spent last season on loan – Omar Bogle and Stuart O’Keefe – though the pair are more likely to play for the Under-23s at St Austell on Tuesday night.
Last season’s fixture against the Lambs, who play in the South West Peninsula League, ended in a thumping 7-2 win for Cardiff with Mendez-Laing and Kenneth Zohore both impressing.
All of Cardiff City’s squad have gone to Cornwall, and these fixtures will see First Team players get minutes.
