Team News

Neil Warnock is sending the first team. Alex Smithies, Greg Cunningham, Josh Murphy and Bobby Reid could all make their debuts.

Aron Gunnarsson is the only first team player not travelling, having just returned from the World Cup in Russia.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Neil Etheridge, Danny Ward and Loic Damour all got their first minutes for the club against Taffs Well last summer, and it's highly likely the Cardiff faithful will get a glimpse of their latest signings this Friday.

Expect to see a large number of substitutions, with possibly the entire XI being changed at half-time, as was the case last year.

But even those who don't get on the turf will be at Rhiw Dda'r to meet and greet the supporters in attendance. :bluebird: :bluebird:

Cardiff City v Taffs Well friendly: which players you're likely to see as new signings set for debuts -

Wednesday 11th July 2018

Cardiff City kick off their pre-season campaign against Taffs Well this Friday at the Rhiw Dda'r Stadium.

Neil Warnock has already bolstered his squad ahead of his side's summer fixtures, with the Yorkshireman bringing in no fewer than four recruits already.

The quartet - Alex Smithies, Greg Cunningham, Josh Murphy and Bobby Reid - have all been putting in the hard yards as Cardiff got their pre-season training regime underway last week.

And it is understood - with the exception of midfielder Aron Gunnarsson - that the entire first team squad will be making the short trip to the home of the Welsh League Division One outfit this weekend.

Taffs Well v Cardiff City, Pre-season Friendly - Nathaniel Mendez-Laing of Cardiff City wins the ball

Gunnarsson - who signed a new one-year deal with the club this week - skippered Iceland during their 2018 World Cup campaign but is currently enjoying a hard-earned rest following his efforts in Russia.

The Bluebirds faced the Welsh minnows in the opening match of pre-season ahead of their 2017-18 promotion winning campaign, with Anthony Pilkington's stunner earning Warnock's men a slender 1-0 win.

And the Cardiff boss handed four signings their Bluebirds debuts in that fixture 12 months ago.

As well as the new additions, the likes of Lee Tomlin and Omar Bogle return to the side following loan spells with Nottingham Forest and Peterborough respectively, with the pair among several players who will look to force their way in Warnock's Premier League plans.

The fixture comes after last year's success in front of a capacity crowd of 2,900, with proceeds from this year's encounter going towards supporting Rookwood Hospital and Velindre.

After Taffs Well, Cardiff resume their pre-season with a tour of Devon and Cornwall before facing Rotherham United, Burton Albion and Scottish Championship outfit Greenock Morton.

Cardiff City are expected to field a team largely comprised of Under-23s and fringe players against Taff’s Well tomorrow night (7pm kick off), but all the Bluebirds’ new signings will travel to Rhiw'r Ddar for the charity pre-season friendly.

Neil Warnock will ensure a full first team squad goes to Taff’s Well, but may save his key players for the pre-season clash with AFV Tavistock on Monday night. what it says on walesonline

But,whole squad will be there to sign autographs and take pics with the fans
so dont expect new signings to play or 1st teamplayers

my bet is u will be rhys healy, bogle, mark harris, kadem harris, connoly, murphy, o'keefe, may be few of the 1st teamers that get a run out

Limited tickets are still available for what looks set to be another great pre-season charity event – with proceeds from the game supporting Rookwood Hospital & Velindre. :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

Neil Warnock’s men returned to work on Thursday last week – view a pre-season gallery here – with the exception of Icelandic World Cup hero, Aron Gunnarsson, who is taking a well-deserved break before joining back up with the squad. :bluebird:

NW said in the Q&A session Annis posted a few days ago that he went and looked at the pitch, but didn’t like the look of it for his first team, but would take them along anyway for autographs, photos etc

I’m surprised we don’t play Newport,Merthyr or Barry in this Charity game to kick of preseason, would attract a much bigger crowd, better opposition and more money for Charities?

No chance of playing Newport. Police bill would be huge.

Correct, I was at the last one at Spytty around 2000/2001 and it was pretty brutal.

Not meaning to sound patronising but most Cardiff fans these days would have little idea how hostile they are towards us based on the fact they won't encounter their fans and we don't play them but they hate us.

They were happy to attack anyone last time, some right scum amongst them, the Police locked them in the ground at one point about 50 or so as Cardiff were outside and they were picking on anyone in a Cardiff shirt.
