Nottingham Forest's best chance of landing Tomlin will be on loan due to Tomlin getting a wage increase when Cardiff City got promoted to the Premier League.

Tomlin is under contract at Cardiff until 2020 – now on a far more lucrative wage packet.

Last week we reported that Nottingham Forest could be put off moving for Cardiff City’s Lee Tomlin due to the increase in the No.10’s wages following the Bluebirds’ promotion.

Its been reported that Tomlin's basic wage next season will now be £30,000 plus bonuses.

And it seems — according to the Nottingham Post — that Forest will look to land Tomlin on a loan deal as Aitor Karanka’s side see that as the best chance of securing a deal.

It will be very interesting to see what happens with Tomlin’s future.

Nottingham Forest still keen on Lee Tomlin - but another loan deal could be likely option

Forest Live

Thursday 21st June 2018

Nottingham Forest are still keen to bring Lee Tomlin back to the City Ground next season – but their best chance of doing so may be a loan deal.

Aitor Karanka remains keen to be reunited with the player he brought the best out of during their time together at Middlesbrough.

While Tomlin has previously publicly stated that he would be keen to prove himself in the top flight, he is not understood to be a key part of Neil Warnock’s plans, as the Welsh side return to the Premier League.

And, in the meantime, he is also open to the idea of a return to Forest and the prospect of starting a fresh chapter under a manager he knows and trusts.

But, following Cardiff’s promotion, Tomlin – along with many of the Bluebirds squad – secured a significant pay hike as a result.

Tomlin is under contract at Cardiff until 2020 – now on a far more lucrative wage packet.

And, while a permanent switch is not impossible, the most likely solution looks increasingly likely to be a loan move, if Cardiff are willing to contribute a portion of his wages to subsidise the move.

This could require Forest to be patient in their pursuit of the 29-year-old, although the situation is also likely to deter the majority of other Championship clubs from making a permanent move for the former Bristol City, Bournemouth and Peterborough United player, for similar reasons.

Tomlin made a positive impact at the City Ground after joining on loan in January, scoring four goals in 12 starts and three substitute appearances, with his exciting, unpredictable performances prompting fans to make comparisons to former Reds favourite Andy Reid.

It’s simple for me, make sure he has a good pres season, gets fit and see how he does. In the PL he will get more time on the ball and we know on his day he can be class.
Warnock got the best out of Taarabt at QPR now it’s time to do it with Tomlin. If he doesn’t come back fit and giving 100% then get rid of him, it’s a short career and hopefully Tomlin will grab an opportunity of another chance of PL football and be a star performer for us.

id love him to prove me wrong..but i dont get how much slack people seem to give this bloke..we know on his day he can be class...?.class players work much harder than this fella, yes there is the odd nice touch but that countered against a fat bloke that cant run effectively leaving you with 10 v 11 is not good enough..
only one full 90 minutes in a 6 game prem career for Bournemouth before he got shifted on..then half a season or so at Brisol before johnson followed suit stopped picking him and moved him along again.
itrs like groundhog day with him.
