Cardiff set to be priced out of the market on strikers

With Neil Warnock and the Cardiff hierarchy now targeting four more signings before the transfer window shuts on August 9, which of the reports can we believe and which are nonsense?

Oumar Niasse

Niasse looks set to leave Everton this summer after two years on the fringes to Goodison Park. There is no doubt the Senegal striker would surely be a good signing for someone.

Warnock was asked as much during a stint on the radio recently, joking that he'd love to snap up the 28-year-old, with a new frontman high on the Bluebirds' summer agenda.

Reports thus emerged touting Cardiff for a cut-price Niasse transfer.

With the Bluebirds set to be priced out of the market for two of their first choice striker targets, Andre Gray and Salomon Rondon, the Niasse deal makes a great deal of sense, although there has been no information from the Cardiff camp that Niasse — at this stage at least — is a target.

Likelihood of a move? 5/10

Dan Gosling

With Cardiff making no secret of the fact they need midfield additions — plus Premier League experience — Gosling's name cropped up in reports that claimed a £5million bid was imminent.

That would represent good value for money. Add in the fact that Bournemouth look braced to allow a midfield player, either Gosling or Harry Arter, to leave this summer and the rumour seems to stack up.

Either on loan or on a bargain permanent deal, this one could have legs.

Tolgay Arslan

A move for the Beskitas midfielder seems unlikely, but it simply will not go away. Rumours have abound over Cardiff making a reported approach for the 27-year-old.

He is a player of some repute, having played in the Champions League last season, but doesn't seem to fit Warnock's policy of buying players largely from the British market who he is familiar with.

There are other midfield targets higher up on Warnock's list.

Likelihood of a move? 2/10

Marko Grujic

Liverpool are open to the idea of another loan move, Cardiff want a holding midfielder and Grujic was popular during his spell in South Wales... it all seems to fit.

Even the media on Merseyside are now reporting that the Bluebirds, despite interest from AC Milan, Lazio and Atalanta, are in pole position to secure Grujic's services once again.

The only thing preventing a deal being done in the next few days is the fact Grujic is away on World Cup duty with Serbia. Plus the fact Cardiff are sweating on Aron Gunnarsson's new contract.

It may take time, but another loan swoop for Grujic looks a good bet.

Likelihood of a move? 7/10

Every completed Cardiff City transfer, in and out, of the summer so far
Abel Hernandez

Leeds United have long been favourites to snatch Hernandez's signature, with the striker's Hull City contract expiring in a matter of days.

But now a new manager, in Marcelo Bielsa, has taken the manager's chair at Elland Road, the situation may have changed. Both Cardiff and Wolves have recently been linked with a chance to hijack Leeds' pursuit of Hernandez.

Warnock loves a free transfer and it would be a brilliant bargain to acquire a proven goal scorer of Hernandez's standing without incurring a fee.

Wages are reportedly an issue, so too the interest from elsewhere.

Likelihood of a move? 3/10

Robert Snodgrass

We know that Cardiff's interest in Snodgrass is genuine.

Warnock is a big fan of the Scot having briefly worked with him at Leeds.

And a temporary move from West Ham could be on the cards, given the Bluebirds are currently working on some high profile loans with another wide man one of Warnock's targets.

Wages could be an issue, as well as the fact new West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini might want Snodgrass in his first team squad.

Likelihood of a move? 6/10
