BREAKING NEWS

Joe Allen has pledged his future to Stoke City, signing a new long-term contract at the bet35 Stadium.

The 28-year-old has put pen to paper on a four-year contract with the club.

He said: "I spoke to Tony Scholes once the season had ended and he made it very clear that the Club weren’t interested in selling me and that they wanted me to stay on. That stance from the Club, coupled with how settled I am here, how happy I am and how much I’ve enjoyed it, made it pretty straightforward for me."

Going same way as Villa, shelling out big money on long contracts. I see financial troubles ahead for stoke if they don’t get back to premier. It’s a big gamble a lot of teams choose to make, putting the survival of their clubs at stake.

I agree a shame for Wales too though I can see Stoke going back up next year if they sign wisely. They have the basis of a good champ side and Allen is way to good for champ.

I agree, they’ve obviously offered him a lot of cash to stay.

He sure is. From a Welsh point of view we need him playing in the Premier league not the 46 game grind that the championship is. He is as important to us as Ramsey and Bale. In the two vital games we have lost in the last two years -Portugal and Ireland - Allen was booked against Portugal for a nothing tackle after 5 mins and was as a result rendered ineffective for the rest of the game and was nobbled by Ireland. We were struggling as a result.

Agree with you there Wez,he needs to be playing Premiership level, we all know how grueling the championship is also I can see him collecting injuries late tackles ie, fair play for stoke they seem to be going for it but I can see another Villa on the cards.

Surprised by the bit where he says how much he's enjoyed it giving the fact he's been there two seasons and been relegated.

I like Joe Allen but thats a random thing to say.

yes very odd especially as he was signed by one manager got relegated under another with a completely different backroom staff and now there is a new guy again and no doubt there will be lots leaving and arriving during the window
and Stoke is a shithole so whats to enjoy ?
