Negative Tactics?

Wed Apr 25, 2018 10:06 am

From the outset I must say that Neil Warnock has been fantastic at City but are ‘negative tactics’ going to cost us in the race for automatic promotion?

It’s fair to say that most recently City seem to set up so as not to lose a game rather than to win a game. Do you remember those first 5 games of the season when City blew everyone away with open attacking football including Villa?

Seems a long time ago since we saw City dominating a team from the first whistle with attacking attractive football. Yes, it’s good to grind out a result as we did against Norwich and Forest when it could be said that we did not deserve victory in either. However in other big games like Wolves, Villa and Derby we seemed to be going just through the motions and if we scored we scored and if we didn’t we didn’t. There was only urgency when we fell behind.

City played quite well in the first half last night, got a goal and should have had a second with a penalty. However second half was a completely different story. Instead of taking the game to Derby to ensure victory we sat back and invited Derby pressure. In the previous game against Forest it was a similar pattern.

Do you consider our tactics to be negative or are we just out of form?

I hope the mentality changes on Saturday against Hull. Yes they have just scored 5 and seem in some form but if we play like we have then Premier League Football may be a distant dream. Fulham have gone 20 odd games without defeat because they always go for it. Attack, attack, attack and kill teams off.

Let’s hope that City produce the goods. It is now that we need a performance. Would have been happier if we went for it last night and lost rather than sitting back and trying to defend a 1 goal advantage. We needed a win last night as all the pressure is now on us.

I would knock the Morrison long throws on the head. Its quite an exertion for very little return and leaves him fcked for defending and going up for set pieces.

We’ve definately changed our playing style in the last few weeks. It’s all hit and hope at the minute.
