About Derby County

Derby County Football Club is a professional association football club based in Derby, Derbyshire, England. Their home matches are played at Pride Park Stadium, where the club moved in 1997.

Notable for being one of the 12 founder members of the Football League in 1888, it is one of only ten clubs to have competed in every season of the English football league system and, in 2009, was ranked 137th in the top 200 European football teams of the 20th century by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics.

Derby County F.C. was founded in 1884, by William Morley, as an offshoot of Derbyshire County Cricket Club; it has spent all but four seasons in the top two divisions of English football. The club's competitive peak came in the 1970s when they were twice English League Champions and competed in major European competitions on four separate occasions, reaching the European Cup semi-finals, as well as winning several minor trophies. Additionally, the club was a strong force in the interwar years and won the 1945–46 FA Cup.

The club adopted its now traditional black and white club colours in the 1890s and appropriated its club nickname The Rams, a tribute to its links with the First Regiment of Derby Militia, which took a ram as its mascot and the song "The Derby Ram" as its regimental song, at the same time.

They looked poor in defence today and 3 successive defeats means no confidence and a win is paramount for them which could play into city's hands :old:

Sean Morrison on Derby clash

Speaking after the Bluebirds’ triumph over Nottingham Forest, captain Sean Morrison spoke to the club’s official website.

“We’ve dug in when it’s mattered this season and the three points were the most important thing tonight. Now we look forward to Derby. I don’t mind the three-game weeks; it’s tough on the body and mind but I like to get the games done.
“We’ll rest up and recover for Derby now and try and bring back the three points.”

'It's the time for action rather than words' - Derby County boss on tonight's clash with Cardiff City -

Derby Telegraph

Tuesday 24th April 2018

Derby County boss Gary Rowett says tonight is a time for action and not words.

The eagerly-awaited Championship clash between the Rams and Cardiff City takes place at Pride Park Stadium (kick off 7.45pm).

Precious points are at stake for both teams.

Derby are looking to climb back into a play-off place having slipped to seven on a poor run of only two wins in 13.

Cardiff sit second and will be keen to strengthen their position in the second automatic promotion slot.

But there is added spice to the game.

The original fixture last month was postponed following a heavy snowfall. Cardiff boss Neil Warnock criticised the decision and labelled it a "disgrace", suggesting Derby wanted the match called off due to their injury list.

The Football League looked into the matter and said the decision to call off the game was the correct one.

Then, a video was leaked online of Cardiff skipper Sean Morrison in a foul-mouthed rant against a number of Derby players.

Looking ahead to the game, Rowett said: "We are playing against a good Cardiff side, a Cardiff side that tests you in a real physical way, and a side in very good form.

"We are aware of that, we know what we have to do and it is about going and doing it rather than talking about doing it.

"It is time for action rather than words."

Derby have lost their last three matches at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers (2-0), Burton Albion (3-1) and Middlesbrough (2-1).

Has the sequence of results damaged the players' confidence?

"If any team is not in a great run of form they are never going to be as confident as you are when you're winning games," said Rowett.

"When you are winning games a lot of things become automatic in terms of the way you play. That is human nature.

Derby County transfers: Rams, Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday linked with Swansea striker

"What we see is we have still got that resilience to want to do something about it.

"We certainly haven't given up, we haven't accepted where we are, and we are still very much determined to get results.

"The only way you improve confidence is to work hard and get through it.

"You have to make things happen. There is no point sitting there and waiting for someone to come along and hit you with a magic wand and say 'here's a bit of confidence'. You have to drive your way through it, and that is what we intend to do."

Vince Alm has spares. Contact him. May even get you on the bus as nearly all the buses drive through/past Ross on the way.

Don't worry about getting tickets next to each other as I am sure someone will move for you. Nobody looks where their seat is, do they? Generally just sit/stand where you want.

Match facts

Derby have won only one of their last six home Championship matches against Cardiff (D2 L3), losing 4-3 last season.

The Bluebirds have kept one clean sheet in their last 10 league visits to Pride Park, a 3-0 win in November 2011.

The two Championship meetings between Gary Rowett and Neil Warnock have both ended goalless, between Birmingham and Rotherham in February 2016 and in this reverse fixture in September.

The Rams haven’t lost four league games in a row since a run of five back in November 2011.

No side has won more games on a Tuesday in the Championship this season than Cardiff (7, level with Fulham).

Dave Nugent hasn’t scored in three consecutive league games since January 2014, with Leicester.

What have the managers said?

Gary Rowett:

"Neil has created a bit of needle, hasn't he," said Rowett.

"I don't think anyone else has tried to stoke it up.

"That is fine, I have no problem with that. That's his management style - he has always been quite abrasive in that sense.

"I still really like him, I still think he is a really good guy. I think he has done a fantastic job."

Neil Warnock:

"We’re just looking forward to the three games, not just Derby," said the Yorkshireman.

"They’re a proper football club, and one I wish I could’ve managed in the past.

"They’ve always got a really loud backing and there’s a lot pressure on them to get into the playoffs. It’s set up to be a cracking game."

I see Warnock keeping it tight again and trying to pinch a goal from a set play, it's horrible to watch and nervy, but we only need a clean sheet and one goal, so I think that's what he does when he needs a win.

Only worry for me is Derby have some fantastic players at their disposal, Lawrence, Weimann, Vydra who admittedly I don’t particularly rate, Huddlestone and Bradley Johnson, any one of those could cause carnage in and around our box. I’d keep it tight but try to nick a few goals ha

Hope you managed to sort something out mate. Don't forget if you don't make tonight there's Hull away on Saturday! Abit of a travel but will be well worth it as could be a potential decider. Did you have tickets for the original Derby away match that was cancelled?
