Key EFL figure expands on initial Derby v Cardiff statement

Thursday 22nd March 2018

EFL Chief Executive Shaun Harvey believes that lessons can be learned from the Derby vs Cardiff game postponement.

There has been a lot of debate around Derby’s decision to cancel their home match against Cardiff on the 18th March.

The Bluebirds weren’t happy with the decision because of the additional travel that it adds to their packed schedule as well as the fact that it was the only game cancelled in the Championship.

However, the EFL supported the decision, but they believed that the situation could have been handled better and the Chief Executive has expanded on that with how they plan to tackle this issue and what improvements can be made.

Here are the key parts of what Harvey had to say: “As a result of this week’s events a number of important lessons have been learned and we will be working on some revised advice and guidance that will be issued to all 72 clubs.”

“Whilst the EFL maintains the correct decision was ultimately taken by Derby County, it is important to note that in their submission, Cardiff City FC raised some exceptionally valid points that, quite rightly, will form part of our overall review.”

“We will be putting the issue of match postponements on the agenda for our next Supporter Engagement Meeting that will take place before the end of the season in order to directly address these issues.”

The Verdict

It’s unusual for England to have such hazardous weather especially so late in the year. Therefore, this is definitely something that the clubs and the EFL can learn from.

Harvey ensured that he stayed neutral in this debate by citing how both sides were in the right in specific areas for this issue.

His comments show that the EFL is willing to learn from this and is keen to ensure that the supporters have a say, which is the most that they can do after the event, so they have responded in the right way.

So basically, we know what Derby did, but we're not going to punish them

How did Harvey "ensure he stayed neutral" exactly?

Before even looking into the circumstances of the cancellation, the EFL had fallen over themselves on Sunday to say that they were happy to agree with the decision made by Derby.

For them to find anything different after their "investigation" would have exposed themselves as the incompetent idiots that they are.

Hardly "neutral" is he?

Load of bollocks.

If the correct decision was reached as EFL have insisted it was, why do they need to undertake a review of procedures?

If it was the correct decision then the correct procedures must have been followed surely? So why review?

It stinks of an arse covering exercise by EFL who painted themselves into a corner by rushing to support Derby's decision on Sunday before being in possession of all the relevant information.

They know they've been caught with their pants down by the fact that they've said that they'll be undertaking a "review". That in itself is an admission that the current situation is open to abuse, and Derby were able to take advantage of that incompetence.

Just about sums it up ! Be interesting to see how they propose to close a loophole they've endorsed ? :o
