Should West Ham consider move for Callum Paterson with emergence as competent midfielder?

Cardiff City's Callum Paterson has played right-back for most of his career but has been enjoying a new role in midfield under Neil Warnock.
Cardiff City's Callum Paterson has been enjoying an excellent season in the Championship as his club look destined to win promotion into the Premier League for only the second time in their history.
Paterson joined the Bluebirds from Heart of Midlothian last summer after five successful years at Tynecastle where his strong performances were rewarded with international recognition with Scotland.
Still only 23, Paterson has his whole career ahead of him, but is vastly experienced with nearly 200 club appearances under his belt already. Having traditionally played at right-back for most of his time at Hearts, the youngster has also been deployed as a striker, and this season under Neil Warnock, has transitioned into a central midfielder with an eye for goal.
In fact, the young Scotsman is actually his club's second top scorer this season with eight goals, not a bad return at all for a Championship newcomer who has mainly played at right-back his whole career to date.

With Pablo Zabaleta aged 33, and David Moyes having cited central midfield as an area which requires real strengthening, given Paterson's eye for goal as well, it seems like a no brainer for the Hammers to swoop for the Cardiff starlet.
Warnock will no doubt have no intention of selling his star player, however, even if Cardiff wins promotion which is looking near certain, should West Ham come calling, Paterson may be too tempted by the bright lights of London, and chance to play for one of the historic institutions of English football.
On top of this, should David Moyes remain in East London next season, the move would open up the door to work alongside a highly respected Scottish manager in David Moyes, who has a terrific track record of developing young players to a high standard.
Having signed on a free transfer after the expiry of his Hearts deal, Paterson has looked like one of the coups of the season and therefore any transfer fee demanded by Cardiff for his services would be a direct profit for the Welsh outfit.
