Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock's brilliant responses to Bristol City's Severnside derby ticket allocation and Lee Johnson's atmosphere jibe -

Friday 23rd February 2018

Neil Warnock admits he would give Bristol City fans as few as 400 tickets for the Severnside derby clash with Cardiff City on Sunday.

A bumper crowd is expected for the lunchtime kick-off at Cardiff City Stadium, with both sides firmly in the hunt for promotion ahead of what already promises to be a mouth-watering encounter.

However, the visitors were less than impressed with their ticket allocation, with only 1,481 fans set to be in the away end on Sunday following the South Wales Police request for an extraordinary Safety Advisory Group (SAG) meeting.

But speaking in his press conference ahead of the meeting between the sides in the Welsh capital, Warnock delivered a tongue-in-cheek response when it came to giving his verdict on how many tickets the visitors would get if he had the final say.

"If I had my way, they would probably get 400," said Warnock.

"But it does make for a good derby when you get the opposition in their numbers.

"When we went to Bristol, I thought our fans were fabulous, even when we had 10 men. They rallied us on and we ended up being the better team in the end of second half.

"But that’s what derbies are about, a bit of hot air, things being shouted. As long as there’s no trouble, I hate it when there is trouble.

"We had a police man die of a heart attack because of the trouble, didn’t we? By all means have a go at me, managers and fans but keep it like that. Let’s not have any physical trouble."

The Robins' boss Lee Johnson ramped up the heat ahead of the derby match by stating that he is not expecting an intimidating atmosphere at the home of the Bluebirds on Sunday, adding that there have been many "empty seats" at Cardiff City Stadium this season.

But Warnock was quick to dismiss Johnson's comments, comparing his opposite number to the Bristol City manager's father Gary who the Yorkshireman has had a famous rivalry with for a number of years.

"It’s great for the fans, they’ve said things about us and our fans have said things about them, the manager's the same, so it’s great isn’t it," added the Cardiff boss.

"You want that in derbies. You know, Lee is like his dad. He talks a good game and I don’t listen to much he says.

"I’m sure it will be a decent atmosphere, we’ll try and do our best for him.

"They were very fortunate that Mike Jones had a bad day with whistle up there (during Cardiff's 2-1 defeat to the Robins in November) because their lad should have been sent off for a second yellow before (Omar) Bogle went, so they had a bit of luck on that day but that didn’t stop us conceding the goals.

"If we concede goals like that we will lose again."
