My View / My Opinion

TONIGHT A BATTLING CARDIFF CITY TEAM CAME AWAY WITH THE THREE POINTS & MAINTAIN 2ND IN THE CHAMPIONSHIP.

After Capt Sean Morrison had gone off injured Cardiff had to dig deep and work hard and battle every inch of the way and they did :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

For me this was a brilliant 3pts away from home :bluebird: :bluebird:

First-half Even stevens, but Cardiff had Captain Sean Morrison injured after 40mins and Ipswich then went all out and finished the stronger team, but City kept it to 0-0 :bluebird:

IPSWICH TOWN 0 CARDIFF CITY 1 :bluebird: :bluebird:

CITY: Neil Etheridge Bruno Manga Sean Morrison Sol Bamba Matt Connolly Joe Ralls
Marko Grujic Loic Damour Nathaniel Mendez-Laing Junior Hoilett Kenneth Zohore

SUBS Brian Murphy Greg Halford Craig Bryson Liam FeeneyYanic Wildschut Anthony Pilkington Gary Madine

There were 3 changes for Cardiff tonight from the team that beat Boro, with Matthew Connolly, Loic Damour and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing coming in and Armand Traore and Callum Paterson missed out through injury, while Joe Bennett is ill.

There was solid start from Cardiff. Neil Warnock’s men began the game on the front foot.

It was end to end football for 35mins, with City's Neil Etheridge having to make a great save :bluebird:

Bad luck for City in the 40th min Capt Sean Morrison went off injured and was replaced by Greg Halford

Ipswich finished the stronger.

H/T 0-0

With in mins Warnock brought on Madine to replace Grujic.

Cardiff were struggling for 20 mins, then Joe Ralls' crossed was knocked back by Gary Madine to Kenneth Zohore who poked it in to the net at the second attempt 0-1 City :thumbright: :bluebird:

Then Zohore nearly had another goal, just missing with his head.

Cardiff came alive :bluebird:

Kenneth Zohore had yet another effort from the edge of the box which he dragged wide, although he had better options either side of him.

The last 15 mins Ipswich pressed forward and City had to dig deep.

There was a final Cardiff change - with Craig Bryson coming on for goalscorer Zohore

City held on to win :bluebird:

F/T 0-1 :thumbright:

I'm giving man of the match to Kenneth Johore for his goal & efforts tonight :thumbright: :bluebird:

I noticed some posters were less than impressed when Warnock announced tonight's team. I guess that's why he is a top manager and they are not. It always looked as if this was going to be one of those games where we were going to have to grind out a result, and I said on the match thread that it was not going to be pretty tonight. The team did what they had to do, despite losing our most influential player. Perhaps now is a good time to stop questioning Warnock. I bet every other team in this division bar one would swap places with us right now. And all done with little money to spend. :bluescarf:

It’s hard to be impressed with the team that was selected out of necessity rather than manager discretion. We had no full backs and missing Patterson who has been fantastic :ayatollah:

Certainly not questioning Warnock

I hope Morrison’s injury isn’t too bad and he doesn’t miss any games at this vital time of the season. Does anybody know what his injury is ?

Huge win tonight and the type you look back on like Barnsley away and think they could be the games that take us up. I watched 2nd half and great tactics helped us win. Zahore and madine combined well too

Built on a solid foundation where yet again we have kept a clean sheet. If we do not concede, there is always a chance of sneaking a goal, even if we have our backs to the wall.

I missed that - they have a tricky game away to Fulham on Saturday as well. Now if they were to lose that and we were to beat the Wurzels we'd only be 6 points shy of them...

Not an impossible scenario at all and if it were to happen then suddenly they may seem almost catchable...

Don't think it's likely although the thought of the Wolves message boards going into complete meltdown as we pip them to the title on the final day is a damn amusing one.

;)

Its in our hands guys. We have a fantastic manager who has been there seen it and got the t shirt. We have a solid foundation. Sure we arent passing it around like some of the others around us but we are effective at what we do. Plus we are 4 points clear of 3rd. IF we keep performing then sod what anyone else does. Focus on our own efforts because they need to chase US down.

Annis you say Ipswich pressed hard at the end.

You know they never troubled Etheridge during that time. Now if the boot was on the other foot and we failed to test their goalie we would be all over our strikers. Well I would have been because I'm like that.

My MOTM is Halford because he had to step into our talis mans shoes and he is the reason Etheridge had to do little.

True, he had nothing to really safe Ian, but for many parts of the game it was even stevens and at stages Ipswich were on top, City battled all the way. upfront thankfully Ipswich were awful and our defence stayed tight :thumbright: :thumbright:

Agree about Halford. Really came on and did an excellent job for us today. Matt Connolly aswell, hes not had a sniff but did his part in a crucial away win. Warnock really has this squad all pulling in the same direction. :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

I’d prefer Wolves to win and keep Fulham away from us if I’m honest.

I can’t imagine anyone was happy when NML was picked.

But in Warnock I trust. Always have and always will.

Great result.

The sort of result we used to grind out in the promotion season - a 1-0 away win at Leicester, a 1-0 away win at Birmingham and of course during that season was the last time we beat Ipswich away (2-1).

May not be pretty but it's bloody effective.

Well done to the team, the management and the hardcore fans who travelled such a long way on a Wednesday night in February!
