Why Danny Ward thinks Cardiff City have the credentials to be the Championship's best -

Danny Ward believes Cardiff City's striking options means they have the firepower to beat any team in the league, after the forward's goal helped the Bluebirds beat Brentford.

Ward struck his third Cardiff strike in as many starts, deputising for the injured Kenneth Zohore and suspended Omar Bogle up front.

And with Joe Ralls also finding the net to sting the Bees, Ward thinks Cardiff have a range of goal-scoring options to eclipse any side in the league.

He said: "If you look at the way Mendez(-Laing) has started and Ken (Zohore) has chipped in, so have Junior (Hoilett) and Rallsy, you need your strikers scoring, but it’s good also if others can pop up with goals as well.

"I think we’ve got one of the best squads in this league. We have made changes and still shown good form and gone out and got the wins. On our day, I think we can beat anyone on this league."

The 25-year-old has been largely forced to settle for a place on the bench since moving to Cardiff from Rotherham.

But he's intent on making regular contributions after admitting a reunion with former Millers boss Neil Warnock was high on his agenda when mulling over a move to South Wales in the summer.

He added: "Every time I go out to play, I want to impress and do my job. The aim is to score goals, so it was nice to do that. I want to try and keep the shirt.

"The lads here have been brilliant.

"I knew quite a few of them before I came down, but I’ve settled straight away. I’d also worked before with the gaffer, which makes things easier. I knew how he worked, so it’s been good.

"Neil was one of the main reasons I came here. I’d seen how he worked and loved my time at Rotherham with him."

Ward also extended his sympathy to Neal Maupay, the Brentford frontman whose gaping miss will go down as the most memorable moment of the game.

Ward admitted Cardiff wanted to capitalise on the miss, which they did two minutes later when he converted Bruno Manga's cross to double Maupay's misery.

"It’s horrible," said Ward, putting himself in Maupay's shoes. "Your teammates expect you put it in the back of the net. You just have to get your head down and try and make sure you take the next chance.

"Whether it affects you for a while depends on the player. You have to try and move on and score the next one. "

"I’ve probably missed one like that at point, but there’s nothing that sticks out," said Ward when asked if he'd ever squandered a similar chance.

But he confirmed that the miss did fire up the Bluebirds and helped inspire them to claim a vital victory.

"Obviously, to get a chance like that and not put it away, you do feel for the guy. But we don’t want him to score, so it’s obviously great for us.

"If they had put that away, it might have been a different story. But for us to bounce back and get the goal straight away was massive for us. I thought we did well after that.

"There’s no better feeling than going out and winning games. You can’t beat that. We’ve got a good side with a great spirit, and a very good manager.

"The good thing about this squad is that quite a few times we’ve had to make big (team) changes. But nothing much has changed – we’ve still gone out and won games and that’s proves it’s such a strong squad. The competition is good for us.

"I know I’ve got to keep scoring and keep working hard for the team. If I don’t, then I know that Ken or Omar will come straight back in."

i have to hand it to danny ward - he could easily be moaning about starting so many games on the bench, but whenever he has been called on he has put in a shift and chipped in with some important goals.

Correct, great attitude and a tidy player. Best back up option we've had for years, head and shoulders above mason I rekon and so is bogle from what I've seen.
