Cardiff Match Reports and Reaction

Thought we were better side throughout. Terrible miss by Maupay knocked our confidence. We got bullied by them and the referee was truly atrocious. Booked one of their players, when it could easily have been a red and 3 more. Lots of stray passes from us in the 1st half, especially from Sawyers, Bjelland, Nico and Woods. We deserved something out of that game, but you need to take your chances.

Josh Clarke my man of the match.

Great support from our fans. Singing throughout, with the majority of there fans leaving with 10 minutes to go !

Cardiff were truly an awful football team. If they couldn’t tackle you they fouled you . For the ref to issue only one yellow card was a joke. I thought we played pretty well to be honest and deserved something, but we must be more clynical in front of goal and that could be where we fall short this season.

Watched live on iFollow (even recorded Maupays notorious miss for Twitter to see at the time).

Not a huge amount to say that hasn't already, been said. Cardiff play really crap football, madness to think they are currently third. Ref was totally inept, took him way to long pull out a card, could of been way more before that. First goal came after some obvious confusion in our box, we were well in the game up until Maupay somehow missed, it's too painful to watch again. They take advantage of us being shocked and grab a 2nd.

2nd half had a little more tempo but we just weren't clinical, it's the same as many of the earlier games in the season... doing all the right things but just not being clinical. Sadly Cardiff saw this coming and just proceeded to time waste, kick us off the park and complain to the officials whenever they had a chance.

Did they go to the same game as me? I thought the ref gave them at least 90% of the decisions and was surprised when the board went up for 5 minutes injury time. I thought it was going to aay until Brentford scored 3. Foot ball is supposed to be a contact sport. If i was still playing i would be sent off every week

Totally agree, yes they did play some good football but didn't take their chances when we did..to have a go at the ref defies belief he gave them free kick after free kick for virtually no contact

Taken from one post ......
"The only pleasure Cardiff fans got from the game yesterday was Maupays miss and the final whistle .. Cardiff hardly strung 2-3 passes all game ... ugly football ".

Did I go go the same game ? :?: I was impressed with Brentford (even more so with that open goal miss ! ). But I didn't think we were as bad as their fans make out ! I think other team fans just have this impression about Warnock's teams and don't actually watch how we play.

They are correct i didn't enjoy the game, pretty much like i didn't enjoy our promotion season. But, it's professional sport so winning is everything.

Brentford are a pretty little footballing team that must be as much frustrating as a pleasure to watch. But football is about balance and they can't take any sort of physicality so unless the rule makers make it a totally non contact sport they're always going to struggle against bigger teams especially in these winter months.

Another bunch of sore losers! We had several chances ourselves to score throughout game, possession doesn't give you the right to win matches goals do! And they couldn't score so its their own fault they lost not way city played.

This guy was at the wrong game their left back should've got a red for a hand in the face of ward and the passes never went astray if he was watching he would have seen time and time again city players got in front of attacker and pinched the ball and they didn't start singing continuously until last 15 mins. They were playing better football but it was all outside the box admittedly we rode our luck today

Back to how we were at the beginning of the season - gifting very soft goals and missing great chances. General play was good enough.

There really aren’t any good sides in this division, Cardiff were bang average, only Wolves have looked half decent and they didn’t score against us or beat us. We could romp this division if we were consistent. Its boring hearing other fans so how well we have played, without getting results.

International break didn’t come at the right time for us as it would have been great to use the emotion and momentum from the Leeds game, but instead we started slowly and you wouldn’t know we were on such a great run.

We need to put it right on Tuesday and next Monday.

Well Warnock does it again. He must relish playing against us and getting results with gritty, cynical, tough football. Basically they capitilised on two poor pieces of defending and we failed to punish them when they fecked up. Love him, or hate him he has had a relatively successful career, playing the game his way. Just hope this does not start one of our famous barren runs. Great chance to get back on track on Tuesday, then beat the Ra Ra's and Fulham and this will game will soon fade from the memory.

Trying to look at things without my blue tinted glasses on, they have a point about the ref letting us get away with certain things, and we certainly were not too concerned about taking our time over most things once we had the two goal lead.

Personally, I think their fans sound exactly the same as ours when we lose. Always bad reffing, time wasting, fouling etc. Teams just play to their strengths, and do what they have to do to get the three points. We did what we needed, and I don't have any problems with the way we played, and that is why I don't tend to moan about the opposition doing exactly the same when they are in the same situation. We took two chances, they failed to take any. We won, end of story.

The only thing that matters to the owners of football clubs are the results. A win is a win and most clubs could'nt care less how that win is achieved. It's all about the 3 points.

Absolutely nothing wrong with Andy Madley, a great referee, two games so far this season and both games won with no goals conceded.

Better than that it's now 5 straight wins on the trot with AM in charge. I just wish the EFL would let us have him every match ;)

I dont think we were overly aggressive yesterday we definitely were more physical but no more than other teams have been in the past. Just think opposition fans are putting two and two together with warnocks supposed style of football and not being subjective when the result goes against them.

Apart from being a win itself, the best part of any victory is knowing the opposing fans are sore losers! ;)

For many oppo fans, they label an NW side as anti-football, route one, dirty, ref pressurising and time-wasters - when they lose that is. When they win they harp on about out-Warnocking Warnock!

The Wolves fans are on another level this season Chris! And I guarantee at some point, the old saying 'pride before a fall' will be once again proved true. And I may well pop over to their forum to remind them.

The game was played pretty much the way I was expecting, & with seven first team players out with injury or suspension, NW had to do some shuffling with the squad.

I said before the game that I would take a scrappy 1-0 win, so 2-0 I am more than happy,,, & I would take that again & again.

Their goal mouth miss was the mega defining moment of the game, & if a City player was guilty of such an horrendous miss then I would be pissed off too!

I agree with this. We had by no means our strongest side out, with 3 key starting players missing ( Gunnarsson, Zohore and Mendez-Laing) as well as a makeshift right back in Manga. It takes more than pretty passing to do well in this division, with only Bournemouth in recent seasons looking like a good footballing side and even they were a side built on 2 good solid centre halves. A lot of sour grapes coming out from West London, as for the third season running there side has come to our place, “played better football” and lost!
