But Roma’s infamous travelling supporters got themselves into a spot of bother hours ahead of kick-off.

A number of them were seen throwing punches at uniformed police officers on High Street Kensington.

And the road was soon in total disarray as ten police vans pulled up at the scene to regain order.

The Roma fans were then ‘kettled’ and eventually escorted to Earl's Court at around 6pm.

The Met Police confirmed to the Independent that one arrest was made during the scuffles.

But the remainder of the Roma fans arrived at the home of the English champions without causing any further disturbances.

Police clashed with Roma fans in west London on tonight, as tempers flared ahead of the Italian club’s Champions League match against Chelsea.

The Independant

Wednesday 18th October 2017

A large number of uniformed police officers were seen clashing with the supporters down High Street Kensington, in the hours ahead of the Group C match.

Bystanders saw a number of supporters throwing punches at the police, who responded by kettling the travelling fans and escorting them down the road towards Earls Court.

Around 10 police vans arrived to quell the disruption, which briefly brought the busy road to a standstill during rush-hour.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed to The Independent that one arrest had been made after the incident, which took place shortly before 6.00pm.

Away tickets for tonight’s European match, which kicks off at 7.45pm at Stamford Bridge in south-west London, sold out long in advance of the fixture, with both sides needing to win to keep their campaigns on track.

This is not the first time that Roma’s supporters have found themselves at the centre of controversy this week, as on Tuesday the club were fined €20,000 for offensive anti-Neapolitan chants, as well as a further €10,000 for throwing a flare.

Footage posted online showed violence breaking out between the Italian fans and officers in Kensington.

Supporters were seen hurling punches at officers in Kensington High Street as violence flared.

Witnesses said the ugly scenes came after fans spent the afternoon drinking in bars close to Stamford Bridge.

Foreign fans coming here know they can get away with anything, its now a regular occurrence. Can you imagine the jail sentence for a British fan punching a copper? If a Brit got caught up in this and had to defend himself, he would be the the one the police arrested.
'Nail 'em up,' I say. 'Nail some sense into 'em.'

For me I have seen plenty of videos in previous fixtures relating to foreign teams and police are at fault a lot more than people actually think, they force themselves upon fans straight away when their just chanting.
I will.
And before anyone els gets in there no im not an ideot abroad
