This is the sickening moment football fans hurled missiles and attacked Northern Quarter bouncers

This is the shocking moment football fans hurled missiles and attacked bouncers at a city centre pub.

A dozen hooded men threw sticks, stones and even a specials board at staff at the Crown and Anchor pub during the fracas on Saturday afternoon.

The violence unfolded outside the Northern Quarter venue immediately after Manchester City’s clash with Stoke, at around 5.10pm.

As they walk up to the windows of the boozer they appear to try and access the pub through a side window.

A man who appears from inside the venue can be seen throwing missiles at some of the group before going back inside.

Several of the group then run up towards the front entrance and try and rush into the pub.

As door staff wrestle to contain the situation a man brandishing a large stick surges forward.

Simultaneously, another man picks up a menu board and attempts to throw it at a window and then at the door.

A doorman is then hit with a large stick and lashes out at his attacker himself.

An eyewitness told the M.E.N that he witnessed a ‘scrap’ moments before the incident.

He said: “Just as they walked up Port Street they started coming back.

“They obviously wanted to get into the pub.

“They were throwing stones and bits of wood.

“Just a minute after they’d gone two police vans arrived.”

During a busy day for city centre officers, GMP received five 999 calls about disturbances relating to football on Saturday afternoon.

A spokesman for the force confirmed that officers were called to reports of a violent disorder at the Crown and Anchor pub, on Port Street, at 5.12pm.

"It was reported to us that wooden poles were used to assault members of staff and damage was caused to the pub window," he said.
