As a neutral who now lives in Newport I went along to FGR to tick one more off the 92. The last time I'd seen you lot play as county you lost 5-1 to Everton! I was very impressed. Solid at the back and clinical in the opposition penalty area. Simple but effective.

I was reading the argus the other day and I think it was Harry Kewell who was slagging county off for their style of football. All I can say is he's jealous as his team are at wrong end of table. I go along to football to watch teams attacking and scoring goals. So what if long balls are played to start an attack. Far better than pissing around in edge of own box and knocking it between your central defenders and defensive midfielders like certain other Welsh teams who then claim moral victories for losing with 70% possession.

Jesus Christ Gar! You lost the plot or what? Comparing Newport County over a side that's spent 7 years in the Premier League! i know you hate us but get a grip of yourself ffs man! Thought you were better than that! :laughing6:

Low below the belt dig!!! In all seriousness county were slated the other week by Harry Kewell of Crawley for their style of play. As far as I'm concerned football is about attacking and getting positive results. There are 2 ways to play attacking football. Get it up quickly and play in your opponents half (which ccfc and county do) or play with width and pace which Swansea did do under Martinez and at times under Rodgers. Unfortunately Rodgers ego and the obsession with keeping the ball got in the way and passing the ball between defenders and defensive midfield led to the watching paint dry comments from the media.

The 'watching paint dry' was one comment made from Martin Keown i believe during a live sky game against QPR which we lost 3-0 in our first season. We were the media darlings for a few years for our style of play Gar as you well you know. But hey, you should try watching us now, an American franchise who are more than happy too see us finish 17th if that's what it takes, as long as we stay in the Prem until the next deal comes along so they can sell at a profit now that they are securing the stadium lease from the council. It's turgid stuff, i actually painted the living room prior to our game against Huddersfield, and when i settled down to watch the game, well, i just couldn't help casting my eye around! :laughing6:

Ok, Annis, i never really rated you lot either unless you were in big numbers. ;)

But hey, maybe you can help me out with this one. What incident prompted A total ban on away fans prior to the bubbles being introduced? Most think it was the 'Battle of Ninian Park' in 93. But's that isn't correct as there is a youtube video of us playing you at Ninian Park almost a year later (Sept 94) and our fans were clearly allowed to attend that game. Yet i cannot think of any major incident between 93 and the total ban? It's a mystery!

All clubs go through periods of awful performances you should have seen us under OGS, Slade and Trollope.

However, even in your so called hey day in the early part of the decade your style of football was a complete chore to watch. Possession football is only entertaining when the very best do it e.g. Brazil 1970 or Barcelona under Pep Guardiola and Swansea have never got anywhere near that. :sleepy2:

You could probably write a book on the rivalry with Newport, so close, that it was always a bit more personal and seemed to be every other week in the 80’s. Always recall seeing about 100 of them bounding up queen street one Saturday pm from the station, no game on. I was only about 13 and was chatting to an older quite well known Cardiff lads who legged it to let others know they’d turned up.....and they often went away with wales, 2 things the jacks never did back in the day hey....

Well I went to the Vetch for every game from the 70's till now and during the old days shall I say, you know for a fact Cardiff took Swansea's town centre and the front of Swansea over every time and it was better than playing at home.

Neath/Port Talbot, (PVM) Blues would have already taken parts of Swansea over before the rest of Cardiff had already even arrived.

After your lot threw seats at families, no wonder fans were banned, even when we got banned at your place, the first time I got in and was eventually joined by 400 other Cardiff fans and we were left alone on the East Terrace, the second time, I got escorted out after 10 mins and joined other Cardiff fans fans walking the front of Swansea.

God knows why the jacks go on about numbers all the time? If anything back in the day cardiff had a very solid 100 or 200, that could be swollen significantly at certain games but the main crew was only about that, hardly huge, but regular be it in London or off to Bolton.
Even the infamous fa cup game at the vetch before the game the main mob made there way via Neath in vans etc to avoid being detected did they not? Only a 100 or so. After was different, tell you something I’ve never seen a mob of 1000 plus wandering through the streets of Cardiff laughing like I did after that game. :occasion5:

Goats even more spot on, Newport was a dangerous place to go, smaller numbers but they were always well up for it and had a very good hardcore of at least 80-100 lads on their day.

The Valleys never saw County's firm, it was mostly between Cardiff lads and them.
You would be shocked how good they were and the time we marched from the station to Somerton Park, the Police had All County's lads held down a side street for over an hr,they blocked them totally off.

They were also massive at County v Merthyr at Ninian Park, plus in friendlies and many many times when the season was finished they would come to Cardiff and battle it out with us.
They would take large numbers on Bank Holidays to Barry Island where Cardiff,Barry,Penarth lads would fight all day with them.

You're right, that's why we-Valleys, Rhondda in particular-never rated them, still don't tbh . On match days they were nothing, and without being disrespectful, myself and others were a little bit too old to be playing silly buggers on non-match days. :old: It pains me to say it, but the Jacks were way way better than Newport. Its all about opinions,And I strongly have to disagree with you County had 80-100 hardcore lads that turned out for us every-time and we played them in the Welsh Cup at Ninian Park in our final years, they brought 200 lads and fought the police after the game for nearly half-hour,Mac and myself were in the car park. County had 28 arrested and a lot sent to prison.

Mac will tell you how good they can be.

Wales games, Jacks never turned up, County turned up and fought Cardiff in Milan and yes they got done but they never ran.

Re: Updated Newport County Fans

Maybe the rivalry with the jacks was more of a valleys thing? After all the jacks hate the fact there was CCFC fans in neath and pt, the rivalry must spread all the way up to Merthyr I imagine? Past Aberdare, Maesteg, always blue towns really but closer to Swansea I think. I’m sure lots went on in these places that lads in Cardiff never really knew about, like valleys don’t know about the Newport thing in the 80’s when it was at its most lively.

Jesus Annis, i asked you a genuine question and you reply to me with fairy tales! :laughing6:

400 Cardiff on the East Terrace for one of the banned games! :laughing5:
Escorted out after 10 mins and left to wander around Swansea at will! :laughing5:

Those banned games were highly policed, if there was a sniff of away support, you would not be allowed entry into either City, and if you managed to get past that then unless you kept your gob shut and sat on your own then you would be rounded up locked up, and escorted out of the City after the game had finished. I know from experience. :thumbright:

I've rightly conceded to you in the past that your numbers meant that some of you had a free reign at times when you visited, but trust me the Neath and PT lads were run all over the place early doors and usually found some place to 'hide' until the reinforcements came along, and if any of them are honest enough they'll admit that. The ones i speak to certainly do! ;)

Martha's on a Monday night eh? Was Never into the rave scene myself, but hey, if a few lads want to come down to a Swansea nightclub on a Monday night then good for you! Not exactly football related is it? Never any reports of trouble there, but i'm sure if you'd made it football related then it would have been dealt with. But well done for turning up in Swansea on a Monday night anyway! :notworthy:

Maybe you should have asked Newport or Bristol City fans to play a rivals match to raise money for Mikey Dye's family? But nah! You came to the Jacks, the most irrelevant bunch of football fans on the face of the earth in your eyes! :laughing6:

Anyway, any chance you can answer the genuine question i asked in the first place? :thumbright:

Though we did regularly go to Newport in the late 70's and they wouldn't be allowed on the Cromwell end as we'd already taken it over!
