Deliberate: Football Fans Travelling Away With their Clubs

Wed Oct 04, 2017 4:31 pm

It has not stopped the diehards of Carlisle, Bradford City, Bristol Rovers,Portsmouth,Plymouth,Exeter City,Hartlepool,Sheffield United, Grimsby, Lincoln, Wrexham still travelling in large numbers, no matter how long the distances are.

Just read that it's a deliberate act that midweek games in the EFL are long distance.

"We make that scheduling choice to get bigger games at weekends because that provides better atmosphere and increases gate revenue for clubs " Harvey told BBC Radio 5 Live

"The flip side is that those games that are at a distance have to go into midweek"

"It is a deliberate act - but the reason for it is to ensure we get bigger crowds at weekends rather than lower crowds in midweek"

Thoughts on these quotes.....?

He should have added "unless Sky decide otherwise." We would have taken up our full allocation for Birmingham and Reading had Sky not decided to show them. Now we will be lucky to take up half and atmosphere will suffer as a result. Reading is like a morgue at the best of times, let alone for a Monday night game on Sky.

I have said this previously as the FL will always know the hardcore support will go wether its midweek or a Saturday game. Would be take that many more to places like Preston/Barnsley if they were Saturdays compared to Tuesdays that they are (unless it was a game thay meant something like promotion)

We've known this for some time, but at last it's official. I went to Preston a few weeks back, and, strangely enough, the staff in their club shop were saying exactly the same thing. Sort of makes sense, but it's a long way back on a Tuesday night after getting hammered 3-0, with work in the morning.
