Neil Warnock on why he's glad Cardiff City aren't leading the Championship ahead of huge Leeds United clash -

Neil Warnock has warned Leeds he’s got his Cardiff side just where he wants them – and now wants the city to come with him.

The Bluebirds grabbed their sixth win of the campaign up at Sunderland on Saturday, maintaining a start to the Championship season they’ve not bettered since first winning promotion back to the second-tier 14 years ago.

And the victory set up a huge early-season promotion showdown with old rivals Leeds on Tuesday night with Warnock’s former club level on points with Cardiff at the top of the table.

Only goal-difference is keeping Cardiff out of the top two – but Warnock says that suits him down to the ground as he urged supporters to get down to the stadium and make the difference in the mouthwatering visit of Thomas Christiansen’s side.

The beaming Bluebirds boss said: “It’s going to a great atmosphere. We’ve got 21,000 fans already in and I’m hoping with this result it’s going to be 25,000 or so.

“They’ll bring a full contingent and they’ve done brilliantly, probably better than Wolves had because they’ve not spent quite the same money.

“But as far as I’m concerned it’s nice we’re in that third position rather than the top, I think it’s great that with these games coming up. We’re over their shoulder and we’re not supposed to be up there.

“This is my type of fixture and I’d ask the fans who are still making their mind up whether to come get yourself away from the television and get down to watch us, we need a good atmosphere. These lads deserve it.”

Cardiff and Leeds has developed into one of the must-see fixtures in the Championship ever since the notorious FA Cup tie between the two at Ninian Park in 2002.

How this brilliant unseen act of captaincy from Sean Morrison helped Cardiff City beat Sunderland

It’s seen the visit of Leeds attract season-high gates in three of the past ten meetings in South Wales, with Warnock hoping – despite the game being screened live – the midweek attendance can bust the best crowd of his time in charge.

And while he praised the early achievement of his old side, he insisted Cardiff’s win at Sunderland where they rallied in the second-half to win via a Joe Ralls penalty shows they have an x-factor he’s recognised in his past promotions.

“Leeds have done well and it’s great to see because it’s a fabulous club,” he said. “I really enjoyed myself there but it was difficult circumstances, it was the wrong place at the wrong time – and the wrong chairman!

“But we’ve done well too. I look at previous promotions – look at Huddersfield, Notts County, Sheffield United, QPR – they were great dressing rooms, team spirit was fabulous and that’s what I do, I get a good spirit into the club. Not just in dressing room, around the whole place.

“The fans are with us again now and there’s no different sections, we’re together as a unit. The club is loving it and the side are benefitting from it because everyone wants us to do well.

“Although the feeling is good I won’t get carried away; we’re not even a quarter of the way through.

“But we’ve got a good side, we’ll give everybody a good game and the fans are going to enjoy themselves. The whole city is with us.”

I know Warnock will have the boys well and truly up for this, he won't want to let down our homebase who will be out in numbers.

A win tomorrow will feel like ecstasy :bluescarf:
