Cardiff City's good start to the season continued as they beat Sunderland 2-1 at the Stadium of Light - with Craig Bryson and Joe Ralls on target for the visitors to leave the Black Cats marooned three points from safety on 22nd place.

Former Burton Albion boss Gary Rowett watched his side slump to a 1-1 draw with Birmingham City, while Aston Villa, the Brewers' opponents on Tuesday night, beat Nottingham Forest 2-1 thanks to goals from Albert Adomah and Conor Hourihane.

Brentford beat Bolton Wanderers 3-0, while Leeds United stayed top of the table after a thrilling 3-2 win over Ipswich Town.

Wolves beat struggling Barnsley 2-1, with Alfred N'Diaye netting a stoppage-time winner for the hosts, while Reading and Hull City drew 1-1 with former Brewer Jackson Irvine making his first start for the Tigers since his record move to the KCOM Stadium in August.

Preston North End were held to a goalless draw by Millwall while it also ended 0-0 in the match between Bristol City and Norwich at Carrow Road.

Fulham and Middlesbrough drew 1-1, and the remaining fixture of the weekend is Sheffield Wednesday v Sheffield United, which kicks-off at 1:15pm this afternoon.
