The very different Cardiff City TEAM you can expect to see against Burton Albion as fringe players get big chances :

In the wake of Saturday’s thrilling 2-1 victory away to Wolves, Warnock admitted “there will be a lot of changes, absolutely. You can't play like that week in week out with that amount of effort.”

Monday 21st August 2017

There will be at least 7 changes to the Cardiff City team that won away at Wolves.

Brian Murphy will start in goal :thumbright:

Omar Bogle and Danny Ward will also start :thumbright:

' POSSIBLE CARDIFF CITY TEAM ' :bluebird: :bluebird:

By Media Wales

GK – Brian Murphy

Murphy will surely be handed a second start in this competition after convincing in Cardiff’s first round win over Portsmouth. The Irishman, who provided reliable protection when Warnock was left with few goalkeeping options last year, is an adept and consistent performer, no significant step-down in quality from Neil Etheridge.

RB – Cameron Coxe

The academy product was an unused substitute against Pompey but, with Warnock’s full-back options sparse due to injuries at the moment, the youngster could make his competitive debut. The Welsh starlet will have to take this opportunity with both hands if it comes his way.

CB – Bruno Manga

Such has been the brilliance of Sean Morrison and Sol Bamba in the opening weeks that Manga – considered by some as one of the best centre-backs in the Championship – has struggled for a regular centre-back start, instead playing right-back against Sheffield United and making a couple of substitute appearances.

The Gabon international will look to impress against Burton if he wants to land a starting spot.

CB – Sean Morrison (capt.)

With Sol Bamba likely to be rested as Warnock seeks to protect one of his prized defensive assets from potential injury, it may be Morrison who continues at centre-back, depending on the fitness of Matthew Connolly, who is also pushing for a return.

LB – Jazz Richards

It may be too soon for Joe Bennett to return to the fold, having nursed an injury for the last week and if this is the case, Richards may keep his place from the weekend. The Welshman is more comfortable at right-back but does a superb job filling in on his unfavoured left side.

CM – Stuart O’Keefe

O’Keefe should start on Tuesday night as Warnock looks to hand a rest to midfield linchpins Aaron Gunnarsson and Joe Ralls. The former Crystal Palace midfielder – brought in under Russell Slade – has invariably put in an industrious shift when called upon, and should do so again against Burton.

CM – Greg Halford

Halford should start as Warnock shuffles his pack in a midfield that worked tirelessly to disrupt Wolves on Saturday. The ex-Rotherham man is Warnock’s jack-of-all-trades and filled in at right-back against Portsmouth.

City fans can expect another solid, if not glamorous, display from the man whose extra-time goal sent them into the second round.

RM – Mathew Kennedy

Warnock predicted Kennedy would “tear up” League Two following his loan move to Plymouth last season. Boasting five goals from 17 appearances – and a number of exciting performances – Kennedy confirmed Warnock’s belief.

There is no doubting the ex-Everton man has bags of potential, but he has failed to make a real impact under Warnock and will look to capitalise on any chance he is given. An assist against Portsmouth was a promising start, and indicates his quality, but Kennedy needs to start producing meaningful contributions on a consistent basis if he is to worm his way in Warnock’s plans.

CAM – Lee Tomlin

Lee Tomlin’s guile was evident against Sheffield United, but Warnock's preference to field a flat midfield three against Aston Villa and Sheffield United restricted the No.7 to a place on the benc. But Tomlin should start on Tuesday night and will look to conduct an enterprising front-line and ensure City’s attacking potency continues.

LM – Danny Ward

Were it not for the sensational form of Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Ward may well have found himself starting most of Cardiff’s opening fixtures. The £1.6 million signing has looked neat and imaginative on the ball when he has come on from the bench, but like Kennedy, needs to make his mark against Burton to warrant selection in the league.

Mendez-Laing demanded inclusion in the league when he scored against Portsmouth in the last round and the winger has not looked back since, netting four times in three game since — Ward needs a big performance to oust either Mendez or Hoilett on the flanks.

ST – Omar Bogle

Cardiff fans are likely to get a first look at their new signing as Bogle is expected to lead the line. The striker, signed from Wigan, is a lively and energetic forward who can hold the ball up, but also break defensive ranks by running in behind.

His role in the squad is clearly defined, with Warnock stating that he was a “back-up” to Kenneth Zohore, but a goal might make Warnock readjust his plans and indulge in the idea of a front-two on occasions.

Must be a Walesonline article as only that shower could miss the guy in the number 7 Blue shirt for 70 minutes against Sheffield United.

One hell of a performance by Lee Tomlin if he was restricted to the bench for that game.
