Rickie Lambert has been linked with a move to Plymouth Argyle

Plymouth Argyle have been linked with a shock move for former Liverpool and Southampton striker Rickie Lambert.

The former England international has been told he is surplus to requirements at current club Cardiff City, despite having a year remaining on his contract.

Wages appear to be the main stumbling block in Argyle's chase for the 35-year-old but the Home Park club have a good relationship with the Bluebirds, especially former manager Neil Warnock, with winger Matty Kennedy moving on loan to Plymouth in their push for promotion at the end of last season.

Lambert started his career at Blackpool but really began to catch the eye at Stockport County before a move to Bristol Rovers. The Saints then paid over £1 million for him, and he helped them climb from League One to the Premier League.

After five successful years at St Mary's, he moved to Anfield for £4 million, playing for the Reds for a year before moving to West Brom and Cardiff.

He only made 19 appearances for the Welsh club last year, scoring four goals, in a season disrupted by injuries.

Get rid of him even if we have to contribute to some of his wages. He won't be playing at all and need to get rid as he is draining our wage bill.

Get rid no matter what!

A fully fit Ricky Lambert is still a top class striker at championship level.

Still has 12/15 goals a season in him...so let's not be too hasty in letting him go

But he will never be fully fit for the full Championship season. Bye bye, Rickie!

Disagree, he's far too slow to be a top class striker and he'll never be fit enough his legs have gone.

But he's just cost us a fortune and he has niggling injuries which won't go away.
He's becoming a a very costly flop and his appearances and goals prove that, plus before he joined us he had hardly played for two years.

Agreed. It was a massive gamble which didn't pay off. Given the precarious financial situation at the club at the time and still taking that kind of gamble shows how bad things were... the 'transfer' committee for agreeing to it and Trollope for making a slow team even slower when every fan could see we needed some mobility and pace in the side.

It's the kind of gamble worth taking if you are a stable club with a food financial position and some decent pace in the side... we weren't and it has backfired. I don't blame RL but he needs to move on.

He can rent my spare room for a tidy sum.
